Tough Mudder

http://toughmudder.com/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRqbkHNckIc (teammate during a training/conditioning session)

On May 2, 2010 my team is competing in what is billed as the , "Toughest one day race on the planet," which is likely a marketing tactic to be sure. The Mudder is essentially a 7 mile obstacle course up and down Bear Creek Mtn ski resort (near Allentown, Pennsylvania) in which 5,000 athletes will have to negotiate 19 nasty obstacles including water, ice and fire. A competive team will finish in about 2.5 hours. One team is a "composite ODA" who have pledged to run the race carrying 55 lbs of bricks in new rucks they are T&Eing. As long as they keep those rucks on my team should beat them..

More to the point is that the race proceeds will benefit the outstanding charity : Wounded Warrior Project. The Mudder organization has set a goal of raising $100,000 before race day. To that end my 6/7 man team has raised more $1,500 and counting. PM me if you are intested in donated $25 or more and I will send you a link to facilitate that.

The Tough Mudder does not take itself too seriously and all sorts of athletes will be participating. Competing will be professional triathletes to regular joes and everything inbetween. After the race will be a BBQ and Spring Festival type party for the athletes and spectators. Please consider donating and I will be posting picture from my hospital bed after the race.

If I'm still in Miami at the time I'm going to try and do it.
Looks like some good fun in the mud and were already talking about making a team with some of the guys at my crossfit gym that I attend.
This is the first race I have seen where it is easy to get really hurt which makes it kinda cool and a definite challenge.
Races like these are great because they punish the specialist, IE the Runner or the Meathead will have allot of trouble.

The Warrior Dash is very similar, though it doesn't have the benefit for WWF.

It does have a few more dates and locations though.

Sadly no, as I was supposed to be at a school. I'll be shooting for next year's PA event: http://www.warriordash.com/register2...nnsylvania.php

I'm running WD next Sunday. Spending the weekend in Lancaster, PA.

I think my wave starts at 1100.

Anyone signed up for the Tough Mudder in ATL in on 12-13MAR11?

I will be there with team "BAMF." We are made up of a couple other military folks and some of the doctors and staff my wife works with.

One of the docs and I will also be hitting up the GoRuck challenge (started by a QP) on 19FEB so we can wear the rucks during the race. Cuz, you know...it just wasn't going to be hard enough otherwise.

Also...the Warrior Dash? Really? Three miles? I might send the link to my grandma...

I was wondering if any others would be running the Tough Mudder here in Atlanta that are from this site.

I'm an 18xray and I'm running this race. I hope it turns out to be really challenging.

I am pretty confident it will NOT in fact be that difficult. I think you will be disappointed based on what I have read/seen. Sure, they bill it as being real tough. A couple of the guys on my team went to the GoRuck thing a couple of weekends ago in ATL and said it was pretty weak.

Honestly, my take is that you have to understand the difference between military "hard" and civilian "hard." You make a living out of doing asinine stuff and attending schools where you "embrace the suck," and it just puts you in a different mental state from the rest of the crowd. The course is 10 miles, and it says it takes most people 2.5 to three hours. I can only imagine the obstacles won't service hundreds of runners at any given point. I would expect a fair amount of standing around...especially if you are waiting on teammates who you don't want to get out in front of or leave behind.

But, I could be totally wrong too. It might be awful.

I understand that. It's being billed as 11 miles and I understand what you're saying about Civilian tough and Military tough.

What day are you running it? I'm running it on Sunday.

could be tough...

Something like this done more frequently, ie once a week could deliver the necessary
toughness required for our line of work.

...or fortunately...one can receive all the misery one can tolerate with miles to go and a fair sized ruck to take with you.

Exactly. The Warrior Dash website dubs their event as the "Craziest frickin' day of your life." While for some a 3.55 mile obstacle course followed by beer may be the the crowning achievement of their lives, others call that Friday PT.

BTW, I'm registered for Warrior Dash Pennsylvania this year. Anyone else competing? Grandma?

That's why I went with an 18xray contract. Plenty of rucking to be dished out...
