Did G-Mom save the fat??

How many of your Grand Moms & Grand Aunts saved the rendered fat from cooking in a coffee can by the stove?

Mine did.

My G-Aunt Peggy would not only save it for cooking, but we used it on pancakes & biscuits and saved the Maple Syrup for guests.

PS: Before you go VEGAN, My relatives generally lived into their 80t's, drank beer & whisky, and smoked..

My Grandma did the same with fat. She also lined a coffee can with a bread wrapper to put table scraps in, then later Grandpa buried it in the garden.

My Grandma did, in a mason jar next to the sink, that she would put in the fridge once it cooled. Would pull it back out when she needed it for cooking or to put more leftover fat in.

LOL...My father used to do that, but he used to put it in a big jar right near the stove. He taught my mom how to cook, Ha.

Yes, G-ma and mom both did this. I do it with bacon drippings now, pour off in a old coffee mug on the stove. Been looking at a strainer/container on Amazon to replace the coffee mug.

Yes. Grandparents saved bacon fat in coffee can.

Composted food scraps in garden.

Both lived full lives to mid-90’s.

My Mom did and kept it next to the stove. It went on top of the dry dog food for our hounds.

My mother saved hers in a small grey crock which was kept on the counter near the stove.

Yep, both grandmothers did and my mother did until her divorce and she stopped feeding us. (That's when I taught myself to cook)

Damn

Damn, you mean you folks stopped doing it?

Wife puts a piece of cheese cloth in a strainer and pours the grease through it.

Mostly used for baking or starting something else.

I still do it on a small scale. I usually have a hi-ball glass 1/2 full on the counter.

I do it for Bacon, I use it to cook my Chicken, that's about the only meat I eat now a days, so any other meat drippings are non-existent.
