In the movie, "The Deer Hunter", there's a cameo by an actor who, in a bar scene, realistically and eloquently sums up the way Green Berets regard Hollywood's involvement with the Regiment in general.

I saw that movie when I was seven and it genuinely gave me the dream of one day a.) riding an elephant and b.) joining SF.

Northwest Passage with Spencer Tracy is pretty good. It is about Roger's Rangers, one of Special Forces influences. Lot's of living off the land while carrying out a raid during the French and Indian Wars... One of the items a soldier comes up with to eat is a little unusual...

While I thank y'all for your suggestions, they've gotten kind of off-topic. I was asking specifically about United States Army Special Forces, not just generic SOF.

You're funny. You mention SF and Predator in the same sentence and then wonder why the thread goes off topic.
I'm staying up for Patton tonight on AMC at 2:00 AM. Not SF, but I love the intro to that movie.

I actually went to Half Priced Books yesterday where I bought "Green Berets," and watched it and the bonus materials for the first time last night. So now I own it.
Totally agree with sentiments expressed by TS and others that no one in hollyweird has what it takes to play an SF soldier. Especially after reading about some of the great actors that served in WWII from the Memorial Day 2005 thread.
I think it has much to do with our current pussification, but also getting away from actors like Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Jackie Chan (one of the last) who were all in better than excellent physical shape AND did their own stunt work.
Anyways, one of my favorites has always been "The Dirty Dozen." Though not based on SF, it includes many elements that enable special operations to be carried out.

Watched it last summer!!!...hmmm, let's see IIRC... There I was in a chilly darkened Theatre, alone with the exception of another gentelman, cold beers in hand, stretched out on some comfy cushions, Oh wait, I can't tell that story in public...
Great movie, and man did the dust kick up from time to time.....

True, but the characters in Predator are supposed to be SF, except Carl Weathers character.
