I;m just about 10 years or so behind you myself. Loads of "coin checks" are behind me and I have been caught a time or two.
When someone pulled out there coin and slammed it on the bar/table or flipped it in the air an it hit the floor...a very distinct sound...your job was to take yours out to show you had one. If you did not have one...oh my...you owed those that produced a coin a beer.
Not a good thing to be in the GB Parachute Club and not have your coin. All the Groups have a coin.
It use to be if you went to the shower you better have it with you. I took and made a slit in my shower shoes for a coin...that way I was covered. I;ve even been hit with a coin check standing on the ramp at 12,500 feet...
Oh yea..kept one under my altimeter pillow.
