Looks like Merkel secures another term. Having had recent discussions with Germans both young and old, engineers, tour guide, teacher etc., they are not oblivious to the right's arguments. We talked about sustainability of the refugee program, how challenging the integration of 20 to 30 yo male as opposed to mother with young children, more taker than giver to the healthcare coffer, cultural heritage, and so on. They are not naive or foolish by any means. I will call it an unquenchable optimism. We agreed time would be the ultimate judge. Let's see how Germany and United States turn out in a decade. ps. I must admit I found my conservative beliefs challenged a lot. I can see the appeal of many Americans immigrating to Deustchland. One memorable experience was at a main city Hauptbahnhof that took hundreds of thousands refugees. I was disheveled drenched in rain, and tried to purchase some food in broken German. The baker gave me some free croissant and wished me well. He must have thought I was a refugee! There's a sense of kindness towards strangers even in big city. |
I've been living here for the last two years and I really like it.....but not to live permanently. No doubt people are nice (in general), polite and things are orderly. But they are the ultimate nanny state and have WAY too many rules that they follow like lemmings. Not for me.

I was thinking about living in Germany after I got out of school. I had friends who used to take care of my Oma who lived in Bad Heilbrunn at the time where we used to visit. My father grew up in Bad Aibling, (originally from Rosenheim) that is where his "foster" family lived.
But you are correct, beautiful place, nice people, clean, clean, clean, and I still have family members there, but way to "controlled". And of course way too many rules. But I still love to visit...I really need to get back, it has been a while ;) |
So, the German people are exceedingly nice. They were nice and let Mr. Hitler and his merry band of Nazis take over, now they are being nice and letting Mr. Mohammed and his merry band of jihadists take over.
I wonder if they'll be as nice once they have converted to Islam. |

Bavaria is a whole different place compared to those areas in the North, or East. Kind of like the South here in the States. A little more conservative than the Northern Folks. The problem is that no one wants to take a stand in their Government against those types of factions in their country. They don't want to be labeled as a "Nazi", or "Racist", or "Insensitive" ...basically, they have become "Pussified"....:D |
Merkel secures another term, the end of Germany (again).
Going to be amusing to watch Europe fall under the weight of failed socialist politics.
Soon muslims will instituting their laws in all of Europe and the zealots will be running the asylum. |

I was impressed by the honor system for the public transportation. I can't imagine implementing the same in Dc/VA or Atlanta! Also amused by the politzei still carrying P7 Vienna was even better. I was hypervigilant at the hotel close last stop of tram. But after seeing couples, children, elderly strolling and on scooter late at 10 pm, perhaps these folks are just more peaceful, Less rebellious, land law abiding than us? For that kind of peace and order (and 100 euro per year for university and "free" healthcare), I actually don't mind the 40% income tax and 250 euro per month health insurance! |

Ask a German if they're allowed to say what they really feel on the internet? Has the modern German contemplated individual liberty? I spent a good amount of time over there (multiple tours) during the cold war & describing that contrast, using only 2-3 things in our BoR, always derailed the best social-justice argument by the draft-dodg.... er, the students at the Frei Universitat. I value & cherish my time over there, places & people both. But in my vintage years now I believe they simply want to be led or taken care of. And Merkel can get 'em the rest of the way to the precipice most rikki-tik if allowed to do so. |

Very soon they will not have the freedom to bad mouth their "rulers"........... when that happens they will have full blown communism. And another reason why Europeans do not understand Americans, we've never been ruled. |

Yes, so damn true: "And another reason why Europeans do not understand Americans, we've never been ruled"...And we never will ;) That's why we are Americans, just try to "rule" us, I dare them.....:D |
What about that period from say, 1565 till 1783, when we were colonies?
