46th SFCA

The war in SEA was fought from two fronts: RVN and Thailand. The 46th Special Forces Company operated out of Lopburi, Thailand. They were active in training the Thai SF Cadre , Border Patrol Police and other operations which were classified.

Though officially CoD 1st SFGA their name was changed and the first personnel deployed from the 7th SFGA at Ft. Bragg.

They were a perfect example of SF carrying their mission to the ultimate completion - unemployment. The Thai SF became totally capable of training their own and conducting their own operations. The Thai SF are indeed a feather in the SF Beret.

Just wanted to stop by and say "Howdy". The name is Joe F. I was DS to the 46th from the 7th Airlift Plt USARTHI in KRT. I landed the first UH-1H at the front door of HQ 46th, early 1968 and got my Thai jump wings jumping out of my own UH-1. We also did and rode the Maguire Rigs. (See Attached Photo).
See Ya.

If any of you 46th Co guys knew a Larry Carey during your stay at either Lop Buri or Pataya, please let me know. I think, but don't quote me, he was in country from 67-70. If you knew him and are interested I'll pass along his email. He's not involved in any of the associations, but I know he'd be interested in coresponding with someone who's had similar experiences.

Hey Guys- I was in the 46th SFCo from 2-72 to 1-74. Lopburi, Nong Takoo, Nam Pung Dam....

captjohn 02-06-2012 13:46

Hi, was in 46th. Company at Nam Pung Dam 69-70. Would love to hear from anyone who served during that time or at NPD. John Matthews

MSF204 02-24-2012 13:03

I served four years in the 46th. I was there 68-69 and 70-73. I was all over the country.

MSF204 02-24-2012 13:08

For KSC.....Steve Sherman's book Who's Who from Special Forces in Thailand does not list a Larry Carey as having been assigned to the 46th or TDY from the 1st at Okie. Who knows????

donwillock 04-26-2012 17:27

I was with 46th SFCo at Nam Pung Dam with John Matthews Sept. Oct. 69 and then to Udorn Nov. 69-Aug. 70 and Hua Hin Sept. Oct. 70. Don Willock

Richard 04-26-2012 17:37

I was there '73 until we closed in '74 - Nong Takoo and NKP - we went by USASFT (US Army SF-Thailand) for mission and political sensitivity reasons then but were 'officially' the 3rd Bn 1st SFG during that time.

Looking for Info on Fred Clubine

Boys, I got this request from Dave Rothmann the retired Sr Warrant from the 10th. He works the as the safety officer now and has a trooper looking for info on his Dad, anyone remember Fred Clubine?

Don,

1. I hope the new year finds you and yours well. I know you’re no longer the President of the SF Assoc., but I have your e-mail and thought I’d ask if you could ask around.

2. We have a Soldier (SSG Tucker Clubine) working in our S6 who apparently thinks I look old (what’s that all about?), and asked if I may have known his father, who served in 10th Group years ago.

3. His father (SGT Fred Clubine) served with 10th Group (at Devens) and 46th Company in the late 60’s, early 70’s.

4. He has had no contact with his father for some time, and was interested in finding out as much about his military service as he could. Apparently his dad’s records were destroyed in the St. Louis fire years ago.

5. Here’s what he was able to provide for details that he knows:

a. DOB: 20 Feb 1950

b. He enlisted into the SF Program from Independence, Kansas in 1968

c. His MOS was 91-series and he did most of his medic training at Fort Sam Houston.

d. He did some training exercises in Panama.

e. He was assigned to 10 SFG at Fort Devens

f. He believes his father transferred to 46th Company in Thailand in ‘70 or ‘71

g. He left the military and Special Forces in 1971 as an E-5

h. Apparently one of his friends from training is a Jim Camp, who some years ago apparently lived in Pennsylvania.

i. This is apparently a picture of him: http://www.mak-d.com/SF/html/fred_clubine.html

6. I don’t know if you may have heard of him, or perhaps you may know someone who did.

7. I remember Joe Helme, my senior commo guy on 322, had been in 46th Co. I looked Joe up on Army Knowledge On-line (AKO) and couldn’t find him (no surprise I guess; that whole AKO thing is pretty new).

8. I’m sure this young Soldier would be appreciative of any information he could find out.

Thanks, and take care,

Dave
