WTB M1 Garand .30-06

Looking for a 'Sunday driver' so to speak. Not necessarily correct in matching parts but rather in excellent condition without modifications.

CMP stocks are pretty low... Don't trust Gun Broker. I'm normally in CO Springs but at Bragg for the moment.

Gun show down at the Crown Feb 3rd & 4th.

Graffiti 01-20-2018 17:14

Already planned on going, thanks though.

Much better show at the NC State Fairgrounds this weekend.

Not sure if you're still looking for this, but the Civilian Marksmanship Program offers rifles for sale that come directly from the government. They're a mixed bag with a variety of qualities available, and they're normally cheaper than market. As a veteran or active duty, you'll be able to apply without having to attend a firearms safety course. This is the same organization offering up the .45s

If you buy a used M-1 at a gun show separate the stock and receiver and then check the inside of the receiver to see if it has been cut and re-welded. There are many of them floating around out there. It will function but the alteration detracts from the collector value.

Many years ago I didn't know about "cut Garands" and bought one from a pawn shop without checking. After learning about them I sold mine to someone else who didn't know. :p

Good point. Here is an article on receiver cutting.

I want one with a box mag mod along the lines of accepting 30-rd Rem 760 mags.

Thanks for the replies. Still looking. A few have come and gone that I have liked on CMP but I just can't justify $4k on a rifle.

You may want to look at the Springfield Tanker. Nearly the same with the added feature of a 20rd magazine. It's based on the Berretta BM-59 Tanker.

Or the FN/FAL.. DS Arms has a good selection

Fulton Armory has some really nice ones starting at about $2,000.
