Chicken Soup for the PSC-5 series RT
Before you turn a radio in for maintenance, try a filter tune. This procedure may clear up most faults you encounter. Here's how:
Items needed: NSN: 5895-00-241-3518 Dummy Load, Electric NSN: 5935-01-274-9106 BNC to TNC Adapter Procedure: Connect the 50 ohm termination (Dummy Load) to the RT antenna connector Turn radio on Press ESC on the keypad to enter the options menu Scroll down and enter the maintenance menu In the maintenance menu, select Filter Tune Press ENT This process may take as long as 7 minutes. If your fault presists, filter tune again then run a Terminal BIT test. Write down the results on your DA form 2404 and turn it in to maintenance if the faults do not clear. 500 series faults typically occur when you change antennas, or if you have a bad antenna. A filter tune should clear any antenna faults. |
You left out another key item to do before turn-in that 99% of the time is the cause of Tx/Rx failure: the BIT log. When it is full, the radio WILL malfunction, and it's an easy fix.
ESC Scroll to maintenance Scroll to erase bit results Hit ENTER x2 go back to current operational mode and try a radio check. |
