The body of a missing U.S. Navy SEAL was found this weekend in the mountains of Afghanistan, senior military officials told NBC News on Sunday.

Those officials said that it is believed he died of wounds suffered on June 28, when his four-man reconnaissance team was attacked in the middle of the night by al-Qaida and Taliban fighters. Two other SEALS were also killed in the ambush.

A fourth SEAL was wounded but managed to escape his attackers and was rescued by the U.S. military last weekend.

Sixteen other U.S. special operations forces, including 8 SEALS and 8 Army special ops soldiers were killed when their helicopter was shot down as it came to the rescue of the four-man SEAL team that had come under attack.

The recovery of the SEAL's body on Sunday brings the total number of special operations forces killed in the June 28 incident to 21, the worst single loss for U.S. special ops forces since World War II.

Not to take anything from this true tragedy, but the reporter or briefer didn't do his homework. The sapper attack at Danang in Aug 1968 accounted for 28 US and 40+ indig. There was a change over meeting in progress converting the FOBs to autonomous commands, CCN, CCC and CCS. All of the wheels from the FOBs as well as MACV SOG in Saigon were in the compound. The sappers missed by a few buildings, striking the NCO barracks. They could have dealt an almost fatal blow to SOG had they hit the visiting officer billets.

The fighting raged on for more than three hours. (One source, reports 28 Americans and 41 Montagnard Commandos were killed).

I don't think that would bother them.
