PTLGC Case Files (mainly handgun injuries)

Mods: if this is not an appropriate thread for this forum, please delete.

I've been writing up the gunshot cases from my research into gunshot injuries back in 2002 in South Africa.

These are cases seen mainly from an imaging point of view however I had a fairly broad research protocol in terms of what data I could collect. The cases are therefore worth reading because I was able to photograph wounds, clothing, recovered projectiles and get the notes also. Of course, I X-rayed many of those patients and either supervised the rest of the imaging or at least got copies of it retrospectively.

Here is the introduction page with links to the 34 cases I have put up so far (it's on LinkedIn but you should be able to access it without having to join up):

If that doesn't work there's a thumbnail page here, scroll to the bottom (just skip over the suppressor stuff):

They are mostly handgun injuries but there is one shotgun wound and another one that could have been from a handgun or a carbine.

Some of the treatment options would be different these days, but the appearance of the wounds and the clothing is still relevant, as is much of the imaging.

Added case 87:

A very lucky escape involving a gunshot wound to the neck.

With all that research, would you still concur with the old adage “pistol round wounds, rifle round kills” ?

In general, handguns suck compared to rifles, yes.

Added Case 72.

Some people have advised me they can't see the cases if they aren't LinkedIn members. Something must have changed with the access.

For that reason, I am providing a download link to all the case files I have posted so far. This link is for a 48mb ZIP file which contains 38 PDFs (the introduction and 37 cases).

The link is valid until 29 August 2018. Anyone who wants the PDFs after that date should message me and I'll email the ZIP file directly.
