Lol, slingshots bring back memories...living in Alexandria VA...Cinderella story...young boy...homemade sling shot...chipmunk...clear across the yard...pacifist mother and two bubbly pre-teenage age sisters laughing at me from inside the house one warm spring day...mocking me, daring me...laughing, did I say laughing...I'd never hit the little sucker so far away..laughter...more laughter...aim...
...how quickly it all turned into tears...;) ...Dad and I had been competing with one another hitting a flag pole from further away for years... |

Does anybody remember Wham-O slingshots? What were really impressive though were Wristrockets. I have taken squirrel, rabbit and dove with one. I even used it in the defensive/offensive mode onetime with a 1/2 oz. lead sinker. :D

Lead sinkers, marbles, ball bearings were all pretty effective...I recall the Wrist Rockets being the top dog although homemade with surgical tubes could compete. They just could never develop the velocity of the WR and the homemade ones broke down. WR was best in class.
Shudder to thing how many frogs were laid to waste. Rabbit is pretty large game...salud mojaveman ! |

LOL, have you ever lived in Northeast Ohio in 1960's? I am still looking for the kid that got me in the thigh.:D |
But they're endorsed by The American Preppers Network so you know it's legit:rolleyes:

Having said that. I think every kid deserves a slingshot. It builds eye coordination and hand/arm reflexes. The arrow,, I don't know,, I used and still have an old re-curve bow I used to get my BS merit badge. It's 45lb and good for rabbits and other crock pot critters.. I think if a someone shows proficiency with the sling-shot, they could be introduced to the bow.. Unless you're Darwin and looking to clean the gene pool?? :D |
When I was a kid, I discovered that darts, the bar game kind, would fit into the old flat curtain rods. I attached a couple of good heavy rubber bands to the sides of the curtain rod and Voila! Slide the dart into the curtain rod back to the rubber bands, draw it like a bow and let go... The dart would stick in the wall of the house across the street...

'Ol Rudy, the slingshot man
I ran across this video last night. I see the gentleman is long gone, but I would love to have one of his numbered, handmade slingshots.
