Does Language experience/background have any influence on which group?

I was wondering if prior language experience/background have any influence on which group I would get assigned to after completing SFAS?

In other words, I am a fluent speaker in Chinese(Manderin), and was wondering if that would have any influence on me going to 1st Group over the other groups? Although, I do have one thing working against me. While I can speak the dickens out of it, I can't read or write to save my life (Was born in Taiwan, and came to the U.S. when I was 2 1/2).

I'm currently a cadet in the Army ROTC program and will be commisioning this summer. I have MI and Signal Corp as my top 2 branch choices. That being said, it looks like I have a good 2 years before I can even put in a packet for SFAS.

Also, got a question about language proficiency...After doing some research, I've gathered that in order to be considered native proficient, I need to score a 3/3 on the DLPT. That test includes both listening and reading/writing. What level of proficiency is needed in order to successfully complete the language school requirements in the pipeline?

Thanks, Joe

Just out of curiosity, did you search on this topic before you posted the question? :munchin

Yes, I searched it quite extensively. Found some related threads, but none that answered my specific question to my satisfaction.

And perhaps PM someone as opposed to asking in the open about possibly sensitive things. my .02.

I think these threads would provide a good idea of the people to ask in private.

The replies are much appreciated. Although, the first thread pertains to language proficiency as a communications mos or the level of profiency needed for most conversational situations.

The pipeline only displays a couple months dedicated to language school. From what I have gathered, the full Chinese course offered at the DLI in Monterey, Ca is 1 full year. That being said, if only a couple months is dedicated for language, then there must be an abridged or adjusted course specific to the needs of each group.

The 2nd thread pertains to language proficiency and pay benefits, but does not indicate whether or not it influences which group a candidate will be assigned to.

This has been flogged to death here.

If you want the answer, rather than us wasting time retyping it or looking it up for you, how about you do the work to get the answer you seek?

You are also a long way out. Without having done anything to progress along the road to SF, you might want to focus on the 25 meter target, like how to complete Basic, rather than worrying about a decision which more likely than not, you will never have to worry about.
