A film depicting the true story of five foreigners, one of them a WWII paratrooper, who were killed by the Waodani, and the events following the murder. It is told from the Amazon tribe perspective. The Waodani was one of the most violent society as 6 out of 10 Waodani adult died due to homicide. Within two years of the arrival the slain foreigners widow and sister, the homicide rate dropped by 90 percent.

The movie caught my attention as one of the character saw the Waodani as being trapped/oppressed by their own violent living. The movie (and the documentary) also shows a very interesting method to drop supplies from the airplane, a nice glimpse to life in the simpler times in the US, the Waodani spearing and field expedient techniques, and genuine hillarious moments.

The reviews and comments on the movie were thought provoking. Did the foreigners destroy culture? Why meddle in someone else's war? etc. etc.
The questions made me recall someone who once wrote in this forum that just because it's culture doesn't mean it's right.

The story was also told in a documentary titled Beyond the Gates of Splendor.
Both the movie and the documentary are well-made.

An unorthodox approach to win hearts and minds...and IMHB, souls.
