The recruiter who's bringing me onboard said that the 20th reoriented toward EUCOM from SOUTHCOM back in 2004. Is that true? I only ask since it might impact the choice of language to study. thanks

Have your recruiter look at USASFC (A) Reg 350-1 pg 3-6 for DTA (Directed Training Affiliation) It covers the DTA for 19th and 20th SFG

20th Group was EUCOM-oriented until the early 1990s, as was 11th. When 11th was deactivated and 20th reoriented, SOCEUR lost half its dedicated assets at a time when 10th and 3rd were already fairly stretched by PfP training missions, other JCETs, the former Yugoslavia, PC II, ACRI and other missions.

By the way, they speak Spanish in Europe too. I had some friends in 20th Group in South Florida in the late 1980s who did JCETs with the Spanish special forces (GOEs/COEs) and paras (BriPac). Spanish is probably not the most useful language for the Europe AOR, though. Even with the demise of the USSR, Russian is probably the most useful after English. For EUCOM's Africa AOR, the most useful languages are English, French and Portuguese.

Crip,

With all of the "planning" that has been going on around here in regards to your training...you should just go to 7th Group and get it over with. :p
