In the thread on the movie The Great Raid, NDD mentioned how much he wanted a movie made about Son Tay. Having read the book the Great Raid was based on it got me to wondering if there was a good book on the Son Tay Raid.
I know there was one written by one of the AF folks on the mission but am interested in a book like Maj Plaster's that gives detailed first hand accounts from the actual Raiders. I looked at the Amazon website and didn't see anything that seemed good. Anyone have any good ideas?

Could you not find "The Raid"?
Your Google is weak or your laziness strong.

I did find that particular book as it was the second book to come up on amazon when you use the search words Son Tay Raid. From the following review from amazon it didn't seem to offer first hand accounts of the raid from the actual raiders.
Benjamin F. Schemmer has written a fascinating and in-depth study into one of the most sensational rescue missions ever accomplished in the history of warfare. Richly detailed and researched, included are photographs, maps, and appendixes with a multitude of statistics and operational facts.
I am sure his work is fairly accurate and does the subject justice but I am not sure if it is exactly what I am looking for. My apologies if that comes accross as either weak or lazy.

The Raid was a good read...read it several years ago though.
I spoke with at least one Son Tay Raider who said Schemmer did a pretty good job capturing the true story.

I am sorry, I didn't take your first post as an endorsement of the book.
My apologies.

Didn't Charlie Beckwith cover it (albeit) briefly in his book?
Disregard!

Thought it was a great read. Original and the re-release.
rubberneck,
If you ever get the chance to visit Ft Bragg, NC, make sure to stop by the JFK Special Warfare Museum. They have some interesting exhibits, to include Barbara.

Thanks Go For Broke. I am sure i'll be through that area in the next couple of years hauling the kids down to Disney. If I have to put up with the Magic Kingdom then they will have to deal with a trip to the Special Warfare Musuem.

What about "Secret and Dangerous: Night of the Son Tay POW Raid"? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0972358900/qid=1136956507/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-3685443-8058341?n=507846&s=books&v=glance
From what I can see, it's written by one of the pilots who went on the raid. Maybe more what you're looking for?
