Christmas came early this year for me. I had this built back in August and thus far it has been everything I had hoped it would be. I have a Nowlin 9X23 barrel coming in the next week or so. Right now it is chambered in 9MM.

We started early. Pics coming soon!

Best item so far is a new HK Full-size USP .45, but I just got a web print-out since there is a waiting period in CA and I have to get it from the dealer. Also Bates boots and a ton of NRA gear . . .

I know what you mean.

For the P2000, they took my CCW and Driver's License and it took them almost 5 minutes to fill out the paperwork and have me fill in the front side of the 4473.

I tell you, if I hadn't needed to pick up a couple boxes of ammo and some spare high cap mags, I don't know what I would have done during the waiting period.

Hell, the last handgun I bought came from an employer, I filled out the whole 4473. Same deal, with my CHL it took less than 5 minutes. I bought an AK last week and it took me longer to walk around the corner and get cash than it did to do the paperwork. Oh yeah, and it came with 2 30 round mags, a 20 round mag and 120 rounds of ammo:D .

Ain't it great

Picked up a new camcorder yesterday, a Sony DCR-HC42.

I'm having this pistol built in 9mm Major for USPSA Open (its rough-in right now).

Nothing flashy or deadly unless I get caqrried away. Our sole income is VA disability. But I got a new 19,2 volt cordless tool set from SEARS. It has a circular saw w/laser light, reciprocating saber saw,jig saw. a drill/driver, a lantern and three batteries w/ 1 hr. charger. That will keep me busy for the coming year.

Let's all count our blessings!!

Y'all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.:lifter

It was exactly on the wish list, but I received a new Leatherman, the ‘kick’ model. Just a simple basic multi-tool, doesn’t have 9,000 screwdrivers! All thought having numerous screwdrivers on my Gerber came in handy after I broke the tip of one. The most noticeable thing about it is that there is formed plastic on the edges of the handle.
Wasn’t able to get a picture, here is a link for any interested in the new design.

I put this together a couple of months ago as an X-Mas Present to myself.

It's a POF 16" Upper System/w an EOTech 552.A65 and fold-down Irons on my M16A1 Lower.

The POF cyclic is slower that the original 14.5" Colt Upper, a little bit faster than a Thompson, but way slower than the 16. I will have to get used to it, but it is EXTREMELY controllable in Group Therapy Mode and you're able to place very accurate fire in volume!!!

I bought myself an SKS. The metal is perfect, the stock needs to be replaced though.

I'm not sure it really counts, but my Father-in-Law told me that he's giving me his gun collection this year. Mostly older lever guns, though there's a pristine Springfield in there too.

OK, I don't have pics because I am a Camera illliterate bastard, but in the last several months, I have picked up or received the following:

Glock 24 with Storm Lake Stainless Match Bbl, Triggerkit.com trigger(bout 2.5#)
TAD gear Stealth Softshell Jacket in Green - Awesome Jacket, it may even get cool enough to use it again someday (Thanks Mom)
Vital Gear FB 1 body and SF KL1 head - this would be the heat if the VG switch didn't blow completely. As it stands, it is not reliable enough for EDC (seemed like a good idea)
Nixon Scout Watch with Coyote Brown/Dark Flat Earth nylon band - What can I say, it was a shiny thing and it was Coyote, How could I hope to resist?
Browning Hi Power pistol - Ancient SF flashlight for said Hi Power, and about 10 mags from 13-20 rounds each
Locally built AK-47 - Built by "Diamond Dave" Michener here in FTW, from a Yugo Zastave M70 kit on an Armory USA Receiver(I had some issues with it at first like it wouldn't run. Luckily the builder is local)
AM gave me 600 rounds of .40 for the Glock for Christmas (thanks Dad)
High Gear Trail Audio MP3 Player - I have been looking at these for awhile now, finally decided to get one. I like it a lot, but it would be much better with Some kind of music management/compression software
I also had my Browning .22 auto rifle threaded awhile back to accept my (legally registered) suppressor - this combination is the single coolest thing I own, it can be broken down to fit in my briefcase and it is armadillo accurate and deadly to at least 100 yds

I'll try to get some pics, but like I said, every time I take pictures, I get prints of my finger and the lens cap.

Take care all, and look forward to some gear reviews in the future.

I Like the Head down carry option the VG allowed, however, Chalk this one up to experience (You know, what you get when you don't get what you want) The VG switch absolutely sucks. It is not positive, and it never seems to totally engage the light to it's highest Potential. Guess I'll be looking for an E1 Body somewhere.

Invoking “no waiting period” envy, is second only to the “not on approved list” joy suppression tactic.

Withholding the specific model of “never in a Californian’s hand”? -- that’s going for maximum effect!

Very nice, I'm green. Sadly the gubbermint does not allow us shooters those beauty's right now, your pictures will have to do.

Given the government there, I do not think that you will ever be able to get these again.

I zeroed the iron sights and ACOG at 25 meters, then we shot gongs and pendulums out to 200 meters. The system seems to shoot under 2 moa, if I do my part.

The only ammo I brought was the M-80 Ball equivalent and M-118 Match, the Match rounds were too long for the FAL mags and dragged during feeding, so most of the shooting was with the Ball. I would suspect that a 155 gr. BTHP-MK Palma load would do very well at all ranges, but believe that it will shoot any standard 7.62 load just fine.

I do not normally follow any special break in procedures for gas guns with stock barrels.

Well, you know, if you let your subjects start owning weapons with a potential military purpose, they might get all uppity and start thinking of themselves as citizens and such.

My advice is that if the state is limiting your weapons collecting, it is time to move. You can come shoot mine anytime.

There's some quality kydex holsters on the market.

The one you have pictured above is the one I purchsed a year ago to test. Its pure crap. Worst holster I've ever wasted money on.... live and learn. I would have felt better had it been a glock in that holster....:D

My newest addition, thanks to Smokin' Joe convincing me that I just had to have one. :D

It's a Nighthawk Custom Enforcer with 5" bull barrel, built on Caspian's Recon Rail receiver. Novak sights (plain black rear, Trijicon front), single side safety, front and backstrap checkered at 25 lpi, slide top serrations, crisp trigger at 4.5 lbs.

I'll post more pics later, but my first impression upon handling this firearm was that it is built like a Swiss watch. The quality and precision are incredible, a palpable difference from my previous Wilsons and Baers. The bull barrel is the most nicely fit that I have ever seen, and has a lovely crown. Accuracy is 1" or better in my relatively inexperienced hands, if I do my part. I only managed to run about 200 rounds through it before breaking my arm, but there were no malfunctions in that short period.

Nighthawk is definitely a maker worth checking out. Their attitude is great and the wait for a custom piece is only about two months.

Edited to add: New pics with something the postman brought today...

A S&B PM II 5-25x56 and a PM II 1.1-4x20 Short Dot arrived. The 5-25 is waiting on Sako 34 mm rings, to be mounted on a Sako TRG-42 in .338 LM.

I just picked up a 1939 Winchester 62 with 90% blueing, nice wood and no chamber erosion from shooting shorts. It's not a DSA Congo but I've wanted one of these since I was a boy. I probably won't put an ACOG on it.

"...then we shot gongs and pendulums out to 200 meters." Sigh. I'd give a lot for a decent range. The People's Republic of Illinois have successfully employed every strategem in the book (mostly EPA's book) to close down every decent range within two hours of me. I have a year-old Bushy that's still not shot in yet. :boohoo

And finally, my toy of the year, a 454 Life Sciences Genome Sequencer 20. Ford may not be able to build a Taurus anyone wants but the world is beating down our doors to buy these things. :lifter

Everyone I have spoken with (here and OCONUS) loves the Short Dot.

I suggested S/B put that #7 reticle in that scope two years ago at SHOT for LE work and was surprised when they actually did it.

All I need for a cop gig is a crosshair for short/medium distance precision work and something red to put on him at bedroom distances.

I just do not need a "Christmas tree" reticle for what I do.

If Leupold would do it with their post and duplex ... I bet they'd sell a million of 'em. Those guys at Leupold like me fine ... but I ain't no body so ...

S/B is kinda heavy (and pricey ...)

But speed costs money ... How fast you wanna go?

I feel for you mugwump, Illinois is pretty tight on the firearms laws. You still have it better than us shooters in Canuckistan. No semi (except the Garand) allowed over 5 rounds in a mag :(. You can forget FAL's completely, HK91/93s too, oh and also any Kalashnikov style weapon. Still, none of that SBR jazz with AR15s, but I would trade it in a heartbeat for some 30 rounders!

Emerson CQC8 supposed to be arriving tomorrow, really depends on whether the Canada Post wants to put in real effort or not. Pics if it does! :D

It is goofy here now. When I was a pup I'd walk out the back door with a .22 and a box of shorts (cheap) and spend the day in "the field". The local cops taught us how to shoot, on their time. They were all WWII combat vets. Knowing them all served me well when I hit high school. ;)

I'll have to head to Indiana or Wisconsin. I want to take some carbine training but fear holding up the class w/ an unreliable rifle. I have to wring out my carbine and magazines first. It's all a matter of finding the time.

One of the major reasons I delayed purchasing a 1911 w/ integral rail was the perceived shortage of carry options for the weapon without the light mounted. There are plenty of "tactical" options available for use with a mounted light, but I am only likely to have a light mounted on my handgun while it's sitting in the nightstand. The rest of the time, it has to serve as my concealed carry piece.

I also have limited patience for the 3-4 month wait required for custom leather from someone like Sparks, though the results are usually worth it.

Wilson Combat has provided a nice solution for IDPA, range use and cold weather concealed carry in the form of their Tactical Assault model. It is an OWB design utilizing a tough kydex exterior lined with suede, something I really like. I don't have to worry about the holster getting scarred up or damaged, but it still protects the finish on my 1911 much better than plain kydex. The belt loops are 1.5" and all leather. Retention is fully adjustable with a screw, and it should fit all rail guns with the exception of the older SA Operators w/ full-length rail. Wilson Combat assures me that the same is true for all but three of their available holsters.

It isn't an issue for a righty if you know where to look. Lightning Arms usually has an inventory of Alessi and Sparks leather at all times. Also gunsmith Richard Heinie carres Alessi leather and usually has a couple right handed holsters in stock. If you are a lefty, like me, you have to suffer through it and wait.

I like Lightning Arms, they are nice people, but they have zero in stock for rail guns. Their wait time for Alessi and Sparks, if they don't have something in stock, is also longer than if you just ordered direct.

For regular 1911s they are hard to beat, though. :)

I guess I need to pay more attention before responding. I missed your mention of the operator model. In that case they are hard to find. You might want to try these guys for Alessi leather. Apparently the owner is friends with Lou and they have a good supply in stock. When I called Lou to see if I could track down a left handed holster he told me to try there first.

My new toys

I just re-stocked my SKS with a TAPCO T-6. It's a fun gun mainly for shooting steel .

I just picked up a Bushmaster Flat Top package deal that was put together by the dealer. Rifle, 6 Magazines, 1000 rounds of Remmington/UMC, and an Aimpoint ML2. There was a problem with the ML2, so he's replacing it.

Finally, I bought a 50" Plasma TV, and a 500 watt surround sound system with 5-Disk DVD Player. The cable company delivers the HDTV equipment on Monday, at which point I will run the audio cables through the walls. This weekend I will be building a more asthetic shelf to mount it on.
