You'll have to excuse my loyalty to my "almost" alma mater. Good luck brothers...I know you can beat those damn squids that do god knows what to goats on their boats  haha oh the good times...

When I was there I had some buddies involved in the goat snatching incident and also the painted Army A on the bronze goat at the front gate of the Naval Academy. Army Navy week is by far the best week at school along with "Drop Week" for the Air Force battle.

My dad is a former Navy submariner. He always tells me once I am in the Army the flags will go US, USN, Michigan then US Army. He even told whilst applying to West Point, " even if you are on the team I will root for Navy over Army" I think that is pretty harsh, but this weekend I will be an outsider in my family of seamen, when I root for Army!

Here we go with the Squid jokes. You land chucks are going to have to heave to and show us shellbacks how to play foosball. As for mascots go, I'm sure if that flea ridden mutt walked onboard my fine sailing death machine we would have stuffed him full of pogey bait and then used him as the ships oscar. :D

As this is an Army SF site, I thought I would relate a Beat Navy story. A classmate of mine in A4 at Woops, later an 18A who I did SFAS and the Q-course with, went to the US Navy mothball yard at Norfolk (I could be wrong about the AO, but it was near there), swam out to a moored sub and a cruiser, climbed up the anchor chains (being a Rock Rat and later on 583, a mountain team, I loaned him the appropriate gear), and painted Go Army on the sub and Beat Navy on the cruiser. He had photogrpahic evidence from the local paper the next day. We were all impressed!

Maybe this should fall under the category of best special op of all time!Good effort Ted!:D

So my Dad and I have got this rivalry going and while looking for some good "Go Army/Beat Navy" pictures to email him I ran across this.

I'm not sure if it's from this year or if it's from years past, but it is definitely "priceless." :D

The chili's been cooking for two days. The cakes are baked. The beer is cold. The flags are flying.

Time to go to the party.

A question from a VGOG who found out he doesn't know everything - close though.;)

Several of the Army players have unit patches sewen on their jerseys. The QB has the 1sr Cav. What is the significance of these patches? They can't all have been prior EM with combat patches.

I notice some Navy players are also wearing patches.

What happened to "The Big D" Pete Dawkins who was the last Army Cadet to win the Heisman? The last I heard he was being groomed to eventually become ACS and then he just dropped off of the edge of the earth.

The patches they wear are to represent each of the units out in the Army. A lot of the guys try and get the patch of the unit they wish to serve in eventually, but really it's all about showing support for the units.

Negative on this !!

They are assigned to units during the non-academic part of the year and those are the unit designations that they wear. For the Seniors, it is usually the units that they are already destined for after graduation.

Razor, any further clarification?!?!

I always thought that it was for active units in a combat zone and that the players chose the unit. Or something along the lines. One of the players wore the patch of the Ranger who died while in the sand box. I'm probably wrong but that's ok. None the less, an outstanding game. I will say the ref's were kinda harsh on the Army with penalties. Delay of game was the biggest. They got robbed of many yards because of that. There is always next year. Ahem....GO NAVY! :lifter

Things may have changed over time, but the patches used to be randomly assigned to players for the game, with all major units being represented. Can't say for sure this is how they do it nowadays, though.

That's how it was when I was there. Oh and if Navy wins again next year I vow to go shoot their damn goat.

Now, there's no need to get ugly. :D

Good party.

This is our 24th game since joining, and the record is 12-12. For some reason, it seems like you've beat us a lot more than that. Must be that streak in the 90's.

Tough to beat a team when you are out coached and your kids do not exercise fundamental football. That was the worst display of tackling by a college football team that I have seen in quite a while. Army looked "bush league", did not adjust to the Navy run game, and did not exploit their own passing game. Part of that is the Academy reliance on the Wishbone but Ross has the experience to make those adjustments. I was not impressed. Congratulations to Navy and I hope the kids enjoy their bowl experience.

See you next year squiddies!
