CNN MARKS CHENEY: NETWORK FLASHES 'X' OVER VP'S FACE DURING LIVE SPEECH
**Exclusive**
At 11:04:45 AM ET Monday CNN was airing Vice President Dick Cheney's speech live from the American Enterprise Institute in Washington -- when a large black 'X' repeatedly flashed over the vice president's face!
The 'X' over Cheney's face appeared each time less than a second, creating an odd subliminal effect.
As this DRUDGE REPORT screen capture reveals, while one 'X' flashed over Cheney's face CNN ran a headline at the bottom of its screen: "CHENEY: I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS WRONG TO CRITICIZE."
One top White House source expressed concern about what was aired over CNN.
"Is someone in Atlanta trying to tell us something?"
A CNN spokesman did not return repeated calls late Monday night.
Developing...
It surely wouldn't have been intentional. Even CNN wouldn't do that, that overt anyway.
I think it's someone in the control room having a laugh and not realising it would actually appear.
Or maybe it's some kind of a marker they use to align the cameras?

Another reason to watch Fox instead of CNN.

Bullshit, it's a control room mistake.
I'm gonna have to agree with Kyo on this one. It probably has something to do with camera alignment and just accidentally got put on the live broadcast. I don't think the guys who run CNN are dumb enough to do that one purpose.Alright off for a run:lifter

Out of 24 hours of available program time, per day, per CNN, how many other times do they make this mistake?

You have a lot to learn concerning the far left wing media.....
cnn ranks right up there with the best tabloids. They do not care if the news is correct, confirmed, or made-up as long as they can get some of the jerry springer crowd to watch and believe.
cnn's ratings are falling through the floor because of piss poor reporting, do you remember "Tailwind"? Thats the story that Green Berets were using nerve gas in Vietnam and even killing our own people, cnn ran with that story, until it was proven, without a doubt, it was untrue.
kerry, kennedy and slick willie's channel of choice....

camera alignment????????? I think not!
I do believe it was a control room prank.........and I guarantee the buck doesn't get passed much further than the producer....unfortunately. This is outrageous.

Did this ever happen in eight years of the previous administration?
Drudge is reporting that people in the CNN control room were laughing when it happened.

Thought this headline on MSN.com is another giggling/smirking play by yet another left wing outlet. Of course it may have been totally innocent!
Yeah Right!

The media on the left is sinking to new lows at the expense of our nation and our troops in harms way!

No I don't remember Tailwind. I don't watch CNN at all.
If they've done this on purpose, they deserve everything they get.

Hmmmmmmmmm......seems that MSN.com has changed the title of their aticle within a couple hours of my posting my previous message!
Here is the new headline:
http://msnbc.msn.com/
Yes, cnn may have done that on purpose, not just an editing mistake. As distasteful as it may be, news is always being altered or exaggerated. Heck, the other day here in town, there was a shooting at the Tacoma Mall. At first the local news was saying 1 was in serious condition, 1 was in stable condition and 4 were satisfactory condition. Only til after the standoff was over did they have exact numbers with a total of 7 having to go to the hospital, not 6. Well since Fox News got wind of the event, they were reporting 2 in critical condition and 6 in stable condition totaling 8. They kept those numbers even when it ended and the actual numbers were released.
Yeah they may not have felt like updating it or just didn't care. Either way in both cases it comes down to someone not being professional about their job. A mistake or not, it's someone's job to look for the details in the info, or make sure the tape is edited for mistakes.
Like a negligent discharge it doesn't matter if it was intentional or not.

I thnk "Hanlon's Razor" applies.
Hanlons Razor which states, "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity".
Nah, I'm still going with malice.
This came over the wire, followed by an "Hold for correction" request.
But, I'll push this version out, because it is astounding:
Damaging ’X’ Over Vice President’s Face was Intentional Says Team
Hollywood
To: National Desk
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 22 /U.S. Newswire/ — The following
statement concerning CNN’s airing of an ’X’ over live video of Vice
President Cheney was released today by Team Hollywood:
Monday morning, Nov. 21, 2005, at 11:00 AM, as CNN aired Vice
President Dick Cheney’s speech live from the American Enterprise
Institute in Washington, the cable network flashed onscreen,
repeatedly, a large black ’X’ over the Vice President’s face, while a
headline at the bottom of its screen read, “CHENEY: I DO NOT BELIEVE
IT IS WRONG TO CRITICIZE.”
Unfortunately for CNN, a large number of their demographics also
participate in Internet communities and Blogs, representing a large
portion of their viewership and posing a threat to news cable and
newspaper subscriber’s fees.
Millions from across the country telephoned CNN to alert the
network about an accidental “X” over the Vice President’s face, only
to be told that the “X” was intentional against the present
administration. CNN callers flooded the Internet and online
communities with calls to boycott the network.
Likewise, the international marketing consulting firm Team
Hollywood Inc., responsible for a database of over 11 million
Americans, both Democrats and Republicans from across the country, was
consumed with the calls. “The volume of calls to our company became
an issue that could not be ignored,” stated Joan Friedman of Team
Hollywood. “We needed a statement on behalf of the Internet community
callers and their newsworthy Blogs, so we made the call.”
When the founders of the company, Preska Thomas and Kevin Finn,
made contact with the network, to their surprise they were bullied and
harassed in the same way by the Headline News desk. Callers were
repeatedly told by CNN, “Tell the President and Vice-President Dick
Cheney to stop lying.” Team Hollywood’s conversation with the
newsdesk was recorded. When the tape is played back, amongst political
statements being made by the network were the words that the “X” was
intentional, as an act of free speech by CNN.
Kevin Finn said, “The Vice-President is a symbol of the United
States, much like the American flag. For CNN to desecrate the image of
the Vice President is the same as the Iranians burning the U.S. flag
at a rally staged for the whole world via television. It is a slap in
the face to all those who serve and have served in the armed forces”.
A Democrat caller, Tricia Rosenberg of Beverly Hills, Calif.,
compared the big “X” across the Vice President’s face to the
markings of a serial killer’s hit list. “I can’t believe that CNN
resorted to such a tacky object”.
Preska Thomas said, “Fair and balanced? I am certain that we have
all heard those words before. Not exactly smart as a FOX! News should
be non-partisan.”
CNN was caught off-guard at the company’s headquarters in Atlanta
by the recording. The statements that were made through their Headline
News desk are not acceptable and there are calls on the Internet for
investigation by the FCC, the FBI and the Trilateral Commission.

CNN, a unit of Time Warner Inc., later issued a mea culpa saying an investigation by senior management concluded "this was a technical malfunction, not an issue of operator error" and expressing regret for the incident.
The network followed up with a special on-air segment during its "CNN Live Today" broadcast, in which anchor Daryn Kagan joined the network's technical manager, Steve Alperin, in the control room to offer a fuller explanation.
The "X" image, a place-holding marker used by technicians to cue up graphics, is not supposed to be visible to viewers but was inadvertently projected onto the screen by a malfunction in a "switcher" device, they explained.
"So, for all the conspiracy theories out there," Kagan said, " ... that's not what this is about. It's a computer bug that people deal with everyday. It's just that ours was in front of millions of people."
OH!!!!!! Okay, now I understand..........sure that makes perfect sense now....phew.......for a bit I was buying into the conspiracy theories out there!
I am now convinced that CNN has restored it's credibility which further lends credibility to their constant assertions that President Bush lied. Writing a big fat check to the DNC and Doktor Dean immediately as pentance for my past sins!
Ever get the feeling that left leaning media organizations have been engaging in self flagulation since Gore lost?
I think it may be ratings envy.

No surprise.
Would you expect anything less from the
Clinton

Network?
"If you don't like it, don't watch."
Best damn advice I've heard in a while. I've been following that advice about CNN for years.
I'm not buying the "switchboard operator went rogue and started mouthing off" backspin. Phone receptionists of all major newsrooms contend with agitated viewers and readers -- daily.
Along with the just rescued alien abductees, it's just another day dealing with the public. So, we're to believe this one phone receptionist, on this one incident, was mouthing on their own?

No surprise.

Alternatively....I refer to it as Communist News Network.
Seth, what makes you think the phone operators are in with the control room?
I've had my suspicions that CNN was running black ops out of Atlanta. Seems they've been confirmed.
Hmmm...Maybe they need to review a thread on bugout bags!
ST
Seth, what makes you think the phone operators are in with the control room?
I'm not clear on your question, Huey.
My take that there exists an audio tape, with a voice making the quoted statements regarding the VP.
Rather than admit that a CNN producer made those statements, CNN is pushing the cover that a lowly "switchboard operator" made those comments.
At First, CNN was pushing the "technical bug" explanation; then this audio tape surfaces, so now the cover is that the "switchboard operator" is solely responsible...
BTW -- I've seen all kinds of "title screen registration markers" -- and I've never seen an Extra Bold "X". Good video registration, like any good aiming, is best with incremented fine lines.
-Seth
Until I see evidence stating it is, in fact, a producer and not a teleop (why would a producer answer the phone?), I'll run with that there isn't a conspiracy here.
Evidence. That's what's needed.

How about this Huey, what graphics were being marked?
Why is it that they have always used a small white square in the upper left hand corner prior to this as a graphics marker. It is used for the very reason that it gets onto the screen every once in awhile. Oh yes I have seen them and so have alot of people they just don't know what they are seeing. They are also used to mark commercials and other cues during a broadcast.
CNN is famous with the "opps" statements every dam time they do this crap. I am with Doc. I have not watched that station in years as they are always doing or reporting very slanted news and if it is positive news about the President then the facial expressions are priceless. When they get something wrong they bearly report the opps, but the original error was reported big time and even gets quoted later on by the libs. Screw the idiots.

Huey,
Read the last line of Seth's last post.
All the evidence I need is that it's already been done.
Besides, this is the soapbox and we get to execute first, charge later and gather evidence some other day.
I'm refering specificly to the teleop situation. I accept the marker was done purposefully.
