I just read this recent poll:

It has me pretty concerned. Not only does it confirm that POTUS's performance with respect to the hurricanes and the Miers nomination (which was not separately tested) had a serious impact on the public's perceptions about his presidency, but it also shows that the country does not have the stomach for the war in Iraq.
A poll is just a snapshot in time, but POTUS and the GOP need to get it together, and soon. Otherwise, we're going to have to deal with Hillary as President and the loss of one or even both houses of Congress.

If POTUS does not shore up his support with conservatives, his overall approval may very well drop to near 30%, a significant tipping point after which his opponents will become emboldened on most every issue and his remaining agenda items will be jeopardized.
This President needs to remember the Bush family mantra that loyalty runs both ways. Conservatives have been very patient and loyal over the last few years, and it is time to repay that debt in a satisfactory manner.

Every president that has been involved in highly publicized war orconflict has had an overall approval rating 30-40%. The hurricane relief (even though the fault lie in state government) didn't help Conservative popularity either.

Polls are as fickle and fleeting as the stock market. One win and the whole thing is reversed.
Having said that, I agree. If President Bush doesn't get it together, I recommend not voting for him again in '08.

Conservatives have been very patient and loyal over the last few years, and it is time to repay that debt in a satisfactory manner.
From what I have seen there are no conservatives in office at this point. Spending made the jump to lightspeed after 9-11 and does not appear to be slowing. The last vestage of common sense and restraint went down with the downing of the Coburn bill. Hey but at least those 50 people in Alaska got their $230 million dollar bridge.

I am not connecting the dots on your Alaska bridge comment in re: POTUS polling.
Senator Stevens threatened to resign from the Senate, and his seat as President Pro Tem if his bill did not pass. Sen. Tom Coburn (Republican) tried to trash the bill by sending half the money to Lousiana in an ammendment. 11 Republicans and 4 Democrats voted for Coburn's amendment. Steven's bill was purely pork barrel politics, and non-partisan. The bill has not even reached the President's desk.
Spending increased after 9-11 due to WAR. You cannot prosecute a war without money.

Okay moving along.... with some observations.
If I had GW's ear I would like to tell him the following:

Jason the anwer to the trivia question is ............$6 billion.....Kuwait reimbursed us along with the monies provided by noncombatant coalition countries like Germany and Japan. We may have even made a profit from one GAO report!
Moral of the story, a prosperous and viable Iraq will eventually be able to retire the war debt we accrue.
