This is from Kerry's website; not including the link.

"I will vote against the nomination of John Roberts to serve as Chief Justice of the United States. I refuse to vote for a Supreme Court nominee who came before the Senate intent on demonstrating his ability to deftly deflect legitimate questions about his views, opinions and philosophy.

If he is confirmed – and he may well be – the Roberts Court will shape the course of constitutional law for decades to come. It will decide dozens of cases that will define the depth and breadth of freedom in America – our commitment to civil rights, our dedication to civil liberties, our devotion to privacy and a woman's right to choose.

With that much at stake, Judge Roberts needed to show us where his heart is. Instead he recited case law and said little about what he really thought.

While I recognize that other members of the Senate will legitimately make a different choice, I will vote “NO” on the Roberts nomination."

I don't need a Supreme Court justice to show me where his heart is. I need him/her to interpret the LAW.

Yep...he's still an idiot.

In a semi-suprise Sen Leahy has announced that he is going to vote for Judge Roberts.

If anything this whole process should show the the Republican party the utter futility of trying to play nice with the Democrats in the Senate. Justice Ginsburg who is further to the left of the main stream than Judge Roberts is to the right was confirmed 96-3 despite ducking many serious issues.

The Republican's in the Senate at the time voted for her despite their misgivings about her stance on abortion and some of the positions she held while at the ACLU because they clearly recognized that USSC appointements are the President's perogitive. That is why we have elections.

Bush won the White House but the Democrats just can't stomach that fact and will do anything in their power to invalidate the elections of '00 and '04. I wish the Presidents party had a real leader running that committee and not that spnieless RINO Specter. Iwouldn't be suprised if 20+ Dems voted against one of the most qualififed candidates of our time.

IHMO after Justice Roberts is confirmed he should pick a justice to replace O'Connor that is in the mold of Scalia or Thomas and let the chips fall where they may.

Good.....they can hold hands. Don't care what they do, get a sedan and share the backseat while Hanoi Jane rides shotgun and Uncle Teddy drives. (This is a modification to an earlier post in a different thread). :D
