Good for them.
Saw related article earlier that played to a different tune. Seems it came with some criticism from former SAS trooper Chris Ryan (E and E'd to Syria in the First Gulf war, from Bravo Two Zero and his own account).

I wonder how much of the operation and the circumstances surrounding it Mr Ryan knows about. He sure as hell knows a boat load more than I do but I know enough to not comment about situations where I don't know the facts.

I'm in the same boat as you.... I wouldn't know a good from bad. But given the facts I'd say minimal loss of life on the good guys part and getting their troopers back in a few days is a success to me. Big picture seems that it'll take some additional heat. Basra has been a forgotten zone in a lot of people's minds and this will only add to someones agenda.

I think Ryan has been kicked out of the SAS Association and is basicly incommunicated?
He lied in his book- anyone who does that is a shithead in my book, regardless of unit.
Sounds like the mission itself went well.
At first I was disheartened when the Commander was apparently having to explain that their actions were not "heavy-handed." I was wondering why he should have to justify the act of saving his men? Then I read this quote.
John Reid, the Defence Secretary, insisted that the attack was justified. “When it is necessary to protect British servicemen, we will take that action. And by God it was effective.”
Damn straight.

His review of the op shows how out of the know he is on current ops.
Don't sweat it, Brits did what had to be done for their operators - and you'd expect the same if it were your ass in that jail cell...

Sounds like a very successful operation. Good on 'em. I hope the jackasses that took the Brit troops remember this very clearly the next time they think about getting froggy.

From what I understand, Chris Ryan isnt very popular back in the UK with the SAS because of his dramatization of the mission gone wrong (B2Z) and the subsequent investigation by a former sas trooper into their claims which found alot of what they had said happened, didnt infact happen.
This also relates to the blame chris put on the kiwi sas tropper for giving away their position when infact after being interviewed, the young farmer who supposedly saw the kiwi had infact heard someone and not seen someone move...
Anyways..a messy affair..
But he isnt too populat non the less from what I can gather..
