BOGOTA, Colombia - A small commercial airplane with about 25 people on board was hijacked by two armed men Monday and forced to make an emergency landing at a military airport in Bogota, Air Force Gen. Edgar Alfonso Lesmez told local media.

The plane, owned by Colombian company Aires, was en route from the town of Florencia, in the province of Caqueta, to Bogota when the hijackers seized control of the aircraft and demanded a meeting with human rights officials.

The Aires flight left the southern city of Florencia on Monday morning for a short flight to Bogota, Gen. Lesmez said.

There were 20 passengers and five crew reportedly aboard the plane.

"We're beginning our initial contacts with these hijackers to see if there is a solution," Lesmez said.

Calls to the airline and to the Civil Aviation authority went unanswered.
