What was wrong with the RCL? I've been told when they wore out they started recoiling forward?

How badly injured was the shooter? S/F.....Ken M

Hey had some facial bruising, and knocked out a couple of his teeth. We sent him to the hospital, and he was back ready for duty the next day.

The recoiless rifle....When I was in DLI for Thai, the instructors discovered that I could NOT say that word (in Thai). They would twist every conversation with me so I had to say it....I just know it was so they could laugh at the different things that came out of my mouth. BTW, the literal translation of recoiless rifle from Thai is "the rifle that lacks the power to bounce backwards".

Okay, my interest is piqued. Google tells me that the weapon is "recoilless" because it uses a perforated artillery cartridge and vented chamber which, in concert, allow some of the gases to be directed in the opposite direction from the point of aim, thus diminishing free recoil.

Is that the right idea? Also, doesn't that imply that a recoilless round is relatively low velocity? What is the advantage over a small, fin-stabilized rocket?

I moved the thread here.

Not only is it funny but there is a weapons teaching point involved.

I've fired a number of recoiless rifles and none of them ever bit me.

Thanks Max, I've not laughed that hard in a while.

It's been about 23 years since I had my hands on a recoilless rifle of any type. IIRC some types had an adjusting plate(s) in the breach area for adjustment of back blast/recoil. Was the 57mm one of them?

OK guys (18B/11B3S & 4S);
I gave you a few hours. We had a funny post about firing a 57mm RCL Rifle and I asked a question about adjusting the back blast/recoil. No replies yet.
Is the back blast/recoil on a 57mm/106mm RCL Rifle(s) set at "The Factory" or can it be adjusted by plates and screws at the Venturie (sp?) Port at the breach block?
Any considerations that need to be taken into acount when bore sighting the 57mm RCL vs the sight picture on the scope when "Bore Sighting".
Hey, I'm just a dumb 12B at heart. The finer points of the weapons MOS are lost on me. I do have a funny story about a 57mm RCL Rilfe I'll tell some day.

For some reason a long time ago, I seem to recall a lot more pieces from a 57mm on the poncho in front of me. For something so simple as a a sight, bypod, tube and breach there sure seemed to be a lot of little parts floating around.

Kinda' like that critter that had the 11 cups and cones.

One single copyright violation from a stolen graphic cost a small business that was a client of my graphic artist $25,000 and put them out of business.

It would be great if some obnoxious thief like that website violates one of my copyrights by stealing a picture or video from my website. Injection molding machine is still needed.

So post lots of great video here. All with a specific professionalsoldiers.com copyright notice.

PS: What some discussion forums have started doing (which seems just as wrong) is to claim copyright over anything posted there by any member. According to vBulletin, even though the blanket copyright hasn't always held up in court precedents, it's unclear enough whether the person who posted a picture they took, then re-uses their picture on their website, could then be sued for copyright infringement for using their own picture.

big-boys.com is in the internet 1000 club (#345 to be exact). Many porn websites are in the top internet site rankings.

Needless to say they are a huge internet presence. After viewing their material it seems they make a living “using” other’s videos and pictures, and now one of our member’s videos. I’m sure their money is made through advertising and the sheer number of visitors on their website. I’m also sure they are receiving millions of hits a day in order to rank #345 on the internet.

This FM dated May 1964 shows no known adjustment for backblast. Just lots and lots of "Do Not's and stay the h3ll away from the rear type" warnings. I have references to the other RL's and will check them out also to see if you could those.

Got a question for you, on the ONTOS could you fire all six guns at once if need be and there was no way to reload without being exposed was there?

HOLLIS,

Got a question for you, on the ONTOS could you fire all six guns at once if need be and there was no way to reload without being exposed was there?

I don't remember if firing all six guns could be done. Basically it was a anti-tank vehicle. There were two banks of 3 guns. Each bank had a 50 cal spotting rifle. The rifle was used to hit the target, and if it did, it was fired one more time with a 106 right behind.

The loader generally road on the outside of the ontos. 106s rounds were kept in the vehicle and under the rear hatch, there was a magazine. That was only accessable from the out side. The breech of each gun was only accessable from the out side.

The ontos also had a M 60 mounted on the center of the carrage of the 106s.

I lied, I don't have "Change 1".

But the back blast on the 106 is fixed. "Triangular in shape with the apex at the breech. It extends 39 meters to the rear and has a 46 meter base." It is divided into two zones, a danger zone and a caution zone."
