Sadly I think this movie is going to stink. The story of the raid is good enough alone to make a great movie so why do they have to throw in a love story? Reported Speilberg was going to make a movie about the raid but was beaten to the punch by a different studio. Why do I get the feeling that this movie will be Pearl Harbor part duex?

You don't think Rangers got laid in WWII?
Besides, it makes it easier to get the significant other to go along. You could always be forced to sit through a chick flick instead. It's a movie, not a documentary. ;)

Why doesn't Spielberg do Son Tay? He has a well-researched book, surviving participants on both sides, etc.

I suspect that he would see the raid as unsuccessful, while the reality is that it seriously affected the way the POWs felt and were treated.
Killed a lot of bad guys, too.

Pappy Kittleson (SGM SF retired), was an Alamo scout on that raid, he was also on a raid to rescue Nick Rowe, Son Tay, and Desert Eagle.
It would be interesting to take him to that movie, just to hear his take on it.
He lives on a farm in Iowa, last I heard.

This movie was pretty good. The raid part was the best part. The "love interest" character was based on a historical person.. Margaret Utinsky, the leader of a Philipino underground. Since the filmakers took it in that direction, would have also liked to have seen Claire "High Pockets" Phillips as well. However, I think leaving out the romance part it would have been a tight, patriotic, action-packed film.

Because he's too busy thinking about "Lincoln", with Liam Neeson in the titular role.
