This disease is diagnosed during teen growth development and is a disqualifier from military service. Young recruits who have marginal manifestations od OS usually have significant exacerbations during Basic training and end up being processed out of the service within 6 months to a year.
Osgood Slatters is traditionally not waiverable for entrance or retention.

I had this in both knees when I was 16 - 21. I wrestled, played football, baseball and ran track. Painful at times but nothing that stopped me from excelling in any of these sports.
A far cry from the beating legs (knees) take in Special Forces type of training.
Sometimes, if it really got bad, I felt it down to my ankles. Could turn me into a puss at times.
Very painful - like a bad toothache.
My brother has it and the doc's at MEPS missed it. He started BCT in June '94 and was out of the Army before that month closed out. His knee decided to do the unnatural sideways movement thus ending his desire to be an 11B.
That was quite some time now and it's best if you take it easy on the knees. He was diagnosed with a mild case and still has problems to this day. He'll walk past something and bump his knee, and it puts him down for at least a day. I'm no doc but I'll tell you that it's gotta be a damn painful experience. My .02 and be good to the knees, you only get one good set. :D
hmmm, I'm having thoughts as too whether or not I should play soccer this upcoming fall (and of course troughout summer). I've seen my doctor two times, both times receiving the same info: just take it easy and the pain won't go away untill you stop growing. My only problem is that me growing will probably last me throughout high school leaving me minimal room to do anything physical.
And how do the doctors just "miss" a knee-disease, that could potentially get worse resulting in surgery, if not paralysis?
