Friend of mine recently inherited a NIB Colt 16" pencil type barreled carbine. A1 top, birdcage flash and aside from the factory test firing, its never been fired.
I'm thinking it's worth around $700-800. Any other opinions?
Thanks.

Get an expert opinion. NIB early serial # SP-1s are collectors - though God alone knows why. I used to own one and was chastized by a "purist" for devalueing it when I put a forward assist upper on it. Since I don't buy weapons to collect them, I wasn't impressed with his opinion. Though to be fair, I'm not very impressed with Colts period. Too much reliance on name recognition, effete snobbery, pollitical connections, and political correctness. Not to mention lousy business practices and brushes with bankruptcy. Have your friend get it appraised by several (more than one) knowledgeable experts. If he finds the right buyer, he should be able to sell it for enough to buy several clones (or one clone with lots of accessories) that he can actually shoot and enjoy without "ruining" it's collector value. I get chastised all the time for leaving mine NIB and not getting a new upper and an optic.

Shooters versus collectors.
Your comments make you seem like the latter.
Which do you think we trend towards? :D
