I have been doing this for a number of years now:

Saturday (05/28/05) morning at 0845, my wife and I will meet others from both the 1st Cavalry Division Assn, NW Chapter and Chapter XVI SFA at the rear of the Admin bldg. on the grounds of the Washington Memorial Cemetery, SEATAC, Washington. We will draw a map(s), flags and a poker tool(s). Our sector map of the cemetery, will show where we will place flags on the graves of the listed Veterans. We will place the flags on the graves. This usually is finished by Noon.

On Monday, 05/30/05 at 1500 hours, I will along with others from the NW Chapter of the 1st Cavalry Div, Assn. take part in the ceremony at the Washingtom Memorial cemetery's Memorial Day ceremony. We will place a 1st Cavalry wreath at the monument devoted to our POW/MIAs, where the ceremony takes place. The guest speaker, is a veteran of Vietnam and Iraq war. (1st Cav Ranger Co. in Vietnam and WA NG in Iraq.)

In past times, my wife and I along with others have attended the Ceremony at the Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley, WA. in between the above activities. This year; however, this year the schedule at Tahoma conflicts with the others.

The Ceremony at Tahoma starts at 1130 hours the Music starts playing. The main ceremony starts at Noon and will last for two hours.

Please note: Any AD or Veterans or wives who wish to join us at these ceremonies are most welcome to.

At sunup I will lower my flag to half mast and walk to a peaceful place in my woods overlooking the mountains with a thermos of coffee and quietly recall the names and faces of the fallen with whom I served. This works best for me, I just cannot handle the crap associated with Memorial Day as heralding in the "summer season", idiot children who have been reared by self-centered parents who feel that this is a day for celebration, the local school band that thinks "tecquila" is an appropriate tune for what should be a somber and reflective occasion, and "veterans" and "locals" that confuse this day with veterans day.

Jack Moroney-will be listening to the soft echos of the wind wispering thru the trees and hearing taps for many, too many.

I would absolutely love to share that as well. I can definitely relate to the crap od kids getting out of school; racing up and down the street in Hondas mom and dad bought, etc. It saddens me to think this country forgets so easy.
