I am thinking about stocking up a new FAK.... and came across a choice in my surgical supply catalog.

Kerlix ____________(4.5"x12')
KerlixAMD________ (4.5"x12')

I have never seen any commentary on the Kerlix AMD. 6ply primary dressing contains PHMB, provides broad spectrum effectiveness against nosocomial infection on larger abrasions, lacerations

Resists bacterial colonization and inhibits bacterial penetration to wound; effective against e.coli, MRSA, VRE, other gram negative bacteria, gram positive, fungi/yeast, microorganisms

Provides adjustable level of cushioning for additional wound protection; sterile in pouchWith the properties that it lists from the company, it would appear to be ideal for medics, emergency situations where higher level care may be delayed hours or even days. Anybody using this AMD stuff?

Opinions? :munchin

Not here. We just use regular old Kerlix here in the Med-Shed and back home on the Buses. I may could see the use in long term wound management, but not here or in the EMS world.

Just my .02 YMMV

I think Guy was doing some research on the AMD.

The cost difference between the two is negligible for a FAK quantity type order.

msrp:
Kerlix $ 2.45 roll
Kerlix AMD $2.65/roll

I just wanted to see if any of you guys had read or experienced negatives about it working characteristics, side effects or contraindications to its use in certain situations compared with the regular stuff, etc. Sometimes the "new" versions have properties that aren't as good as the old stuff... and the company isn't real keen on telling you about it.

Any more opiniions ... :munchin
