A. PHILIP R. JOBERT, COLONEL, RET. US ARMY
Died: Monday 2/09/04

A. Philip R. Jobert, Colonel, retired, US Army, died at his home in Surry, NH on Monday evening.

He was born in Manchester, CT on May 5, 1933, the son of Marcel P. and Evelyn (Russell) Jobert.

He grew up and attended schools in Manchester, CT before transferring to Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, PA.

He enlisted in the US Army in July 1952 as a Private E-2. After reaching the rank of Sergeant he was selected to attend the Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA. He was the honor graduate in his class and was given an RA Commission as 2nd Lieutenant. He went on to Ranger School, became a paratrooper and a pathfinder. He spent three years in Alaska where he was Officer In Charge of the 1960 Biathlon Team that participated in the Squaw Valley Olympics. In 1962 both he and his wife attended six months of language training at the Presido of San Francisco.

In June of 1962 he was assigned to the 7th SFG (A) at Fort Bragg. From there he was assigned to the 8th SFG (A) at Ft. Gulick, Canal Zone. He taught ROTC at Long Beach High School. He then completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Parkville College in Missouri.

He attended the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, KA and completed his Masters Degree in International Affairs at the University of Oklahoma. He worked in Mexico and South and Central America as a military advisor and served three years with the Uruguayan Army.

He served two tours in Vietnam with a MACV advisory team. He joined the 10 SFG at Fort Devens as a Deputy Commander in 1976. He was transferred to SOTFE at Patch Barracks, Germany and ended a thirty-four year career as a military attache' in Lisbon, Portugal. He spoke Spanish, Portuguese and German. He retired in 1986. He was made an honorary member of the 10th Mtn. Division in 1979 and was inducted into the OCS Hall of Fame in 1993.

Upon his retirement, he worked for ten years at the CFX Bank in Keene. He was a volunteer driver for the Veteran's Administration and his favorite job was working at the Bretwood Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of fifty-two years, Ruth Jobert of Surry, NH who traveled with him when possible. A daughter Donna Jobert, of Bouder, Colorado and a son, Philip R. Jobert, Jr., of Leominster, MA. Three grandsons; Ryan Van Duzer (a Peace Corp. Volunteer in Honduras), Logan Van Duzer and Ethan Van Duzer, (students at the University of Colorado) and a granddaughter Sara Van Duzer of Knoxville, TN.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene on Saturday afternoon from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. A brief service will be held at 4:00 p.m.

Burial with full military honors will be conducted at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA on Friday, April 9, 2004, at 9:00 a.m.
