I was watching "Operation Anaconda" on the Military Channel the other night. In it, they depict the actions by Army Rangers on what I believe they're now calling "Robert's Ridge". Anyways, they used reenactors to depict the operation, and they filmed it like it was real footage.

Here's my question to everyone:
When watching a military related documentary that details an event where no actual footage of the event exists, do you find reenactment footage helpful? Would you go so far as to say that you prefer it to say, picture montages, maps, or other documentary tricks of the trade?

I think it helps the common person have a better understanding of what happened, how it happened and why, though it would not accurately demonstrate the amount of gunfire or action that occurred.

I know some documentaries do this on the discovery channel from time to time to re-enact alexander the great, etc etc for youth's and kids to understand the reasons for success and failures and they can be entertaining.

I think it's helpful, but find it annoying when the details aren't correct, ie. kit's wrong, weapons are wrong, that kind of thing.
