As a very quick read The Defense of Duffer's Drift by E.D. Swinton brings up some interesting solutions to the same tactical problem.

The story is told through six dreams of Lieutenant Backsight Forethough. The central question is - Could you, the reader, have done any better then the Lt. in finding the solution to a deceptively simple tactical problem.

It is a good little book to give you something to think about in finding solutions to modern problems.

Groundhog Day, the book...when i was a trainer at IOBC, it was required that every 2LT read the book and submit a book report to his trainer...it was a good book when i read, but after some 200 book reports, i'm not sure i read the same book the LTs did...
