More and more various podcasters are having folks on, "Former ST6 / D-Boy", "Former Ranger / SEAL / SF guy" and seems the farther out we get from end of conflict - the "less plausible" the stories become.
Element of truth? Sure - but the DETAILS?!?:confused:
Just STARTED watching one from a known CAG guy and had to kill it after the first 30sec...
"5 of us were doing a night combat jump from 20K feet, landed at 7K feet, the air is really thin there and I landed so hard I cracked my kevlar in half., but got up and rangered on.."...
Ummm.... OK.
Other examples tend to be "This guy said this and he is FOS", then the guy who said the first thing goes on ANOTHER guy's show and says THAT guy is FOS and "wasn't even there". Then the HOST from the FIRST show goes on the other guys show and.... SHIT - It's "real housewives of Special Forces" anymore.ALL of these guys are banking money off of the public's fascination of the people who started the "big bushy facial hair" trend - and granted controversy gives them clicks... BUT DAMN:rolleyes:
Money and clicks and recognition will make folks say and do some pretty outlandish shit. Everyone here not only KNOWS an asshole like this - the chances are almost mathematically impossible that ever single former action guy on this board had an asshole like this on your ODA.
Oddly - every time we hear about grand acts of douchebaggery - people act surprised...

Why?
'SOF' guys are no different from anyone else. I've deployed with guys on my team - my comnpany - my battalion - my group - that were abasolute shit fists - but folks loved them because they were colorful and entertaining.
They weren't they were turds - but people were distracted by their 'turdery' because SOMEBODY needed to carry the extra ammo - somebody needed run the gun in the turret...
...plus, when shit gets all hostile and violent, every trigger figner counts.
Lets ALL stop pretending that every service member is a hero - lets stop pretending that SOF guys should be worshipped becuase they "earned it"

None of us "earned" the right to be a shithead. None of us "earned" the right to committ serial shenangians without getting called out for it. Just because somebody has a Ranger Tab, or SF Tab, or Trident, or any other type of badge or credential DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE BEYOND REPROACH
The worst security leak in the history of the USA came from an asshole whose job was literally hunting down spies - so why should I believe that just because someone served in any type of military capacity is immune to being full of shit at best - down right dishonorable at worst?

THIS BULLSHIT is EXACTLY why i don't do Foerign Legion, VFW, DAV etc.
Oddly, had a friend who had a get together at the local DAV. I have DV plates on my car. I go in, order a beer-
"Are you a member here?", I put down my VA card, Life SFA brass, and my VA card - that should do it...
"No cowboy, I asked if you were a member here, like, filled out an application, have a sponsor, paid your dues... we don't care if you are a disabled vet or not, gotta be a member here to order from the bar or have a member do it for you"

I'd do the Foreign Legion...have a cert too lol, but I know what you mean....American Legion. You get some great war stories, but I have not heard any lately.

I've seen a few similar podcasts and was just ...well, uh, yeah, sure.... the sad thing is many civvies buy into this shit without question.... that's how posers survive.

edit to add: the "Sheriff of Baghdad," John McFee, is a total shit show who got tossed out of the Unit, has a history of making shit up, and got in even further trouble where he was reduced in Grade before unceremoniously retiring.
He's a fucking clown.
Generally, the guys out there thumping their chests and screeching "LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME!!!!" have been PNG'd out of the community and are trying to be relevant and feed their ego for dopamine hits. The real deal guys are quiet and won't put themselves in front of every camera they can run into.

The average citizen looks at me funny when I say "so what" to their remarks about "veteran patriots."
When I explain that veterans who support communism aren't patriots, veterans who support gun confiscation or red flag laws or further infringement of 2A rights aren't patriots and veterans who are actively training leftist/communists groups on using insurgency to impede lawful government policies and activities aren't patriots either.
As always, Box says it much better than I.
Frankly, I don't give a damn if you were a member of SEAL team and lost an eye, if you're a politician who bends his knee to Davos and/or Israel.
