I'm conservative and have no dislike for Charlie Kirk but this doesn't suprise me. He was always controversial and always out in front of a large crowd of people. That and considering the political climate of this society right now maybe he could have had better security. A ballistic shield maybe? Hope Ben Shapiro's security detail takes notes on this tragic incident.

Rest in peace Charlie Kirk.

I am terribly saddened by this, more so that my norm....I've watched many, many, Kirk vids of his debates on campus. He was brilliant and fair. Articulate and informed. A true free speech patriot.

I will miss his intellect and his mission greatly.

I am getting very tired of the violent left.

Yes, amazing how they can't handle the truth. They also can't take no for an answer without going full blown ballistic, like spoiled rich kids or something.
So much for the "tolerant and peaceful" left.
The do exactly OPPOSITE of what they preach and do EXACTLEY what they accuse others of doing..

RIP Charlie Kirk.

When truth speakers won't be muzzled by radicals stomping on their right to free speech, other means must be taken.

When governments allow the trampling of free speech of people they disagree with, radicals believe by any means necessary.

The campus police admit they didn't have the university secured. Their bungling around capturing the wrong guy turned attention to that spectacle allowing the shooter easier exfil.

There's so many possibilities on who could have done it - brainwashed student, antifags, trannies, gov't agents (of various countries)....

Its a shame that the left side of the political arena is so often willing to preach peace and tolerance while consistenly being the first ones to escalate to violence when they arent respected as the authority on national ideaology.

I hope the killer is caught quickly and then given all of the justice that he is due.

RIP to an innocent American that was not afraid to speak out in public in spite of the constant hatred and threats intended to silence him.

A little something to think about for assholes that pull this kind of shit.
They didn't silence Charlie Kirk. They martyred him.
Their blind hatred has taken a peaceful man that was steadfast in his willingness to TALK about problems, and enflamed a portion of the populace that will surely push harder and more determined that Charlie Kirk would have pushed on his own.

Smooth move asshole.

Very sad. Not only was Kirk a staunch believer in free speech, but extremely effective in harnessing its power. I had him pegged for possible VP material in 28.

The news says they are looking for a male. I’ll be surprised if the shooter identifies as such. While I disagree that the political violence is completely one sided, there does seem to be a subset on the left that has completely become unhinged.

I am also suspicious of the conversation going on at the exact time of the shooting. But that’s probably just my tin foil lid talking.

FBI says they recovered possible assassination rifle - imported Mauser 30.06.
My BS alerts are ringing - they say the rifle was wrapped in a towel, discarded in the woods where the shooter allegedly fled and has transgender and anti-fascist ideology written on the ammo.
Now, I suppose it's possible that the shooter took the shot, wrapped the rifle in a towel preserving forensic evidence, jumped off the roof, ran into the nearby woods and discarded it.

Surplus rifle bought with cash from a second or third party - big box store hunting ammo - paid for with cash - shooter wearing gloves when they loaded and fired...
...no finger prints no paper trail

Dump the evidence as soon as you can - and then beat feet to get the hell out of dodge - makes sense to me.

As horrible and tragic as this is; This is an interesting perspective / breakdown of the impact as a ricochet off of his body armor. Medically sound analysis as well.
As soon as I saw the unedited footage I felt it a non-survivable - not only from the neck wound but his immediate posturing post impact indicating a brainstem hit / injury.

I am surprised by the manner and degree that the assassination of Charlie Kirk has affected me. I have not considered myself to be a man of Faith, until now that is. This assassination lit a fire in my soul. We are at a watershed moment with the very foundation of our society under attack by the left. They fired the first shot in the battle, and by default, it is now a kinetic one.

One of our Brothers, (I am sorry I don't remember who with certainty, but Roy Burkhart comes to mind.) wrote a letter, admonishing the left, to stop pushing, lest they awaken the sleeping warriors! I believe we have been awakened, may God help you!

There is plenty of information floating around about the shooter, much of it inaccurate.

He was raised in the small town of Kanab, UT, and his family moved to Washington, UT some years ago.

My route is in Fredonia, AZ, the border town with Kanab.
I have family here and a reliable reasonably direct information source concerning recent events with regard to the shooter.
We’ll see how accurate it turns out to be.

His family is quite conservative.
He was probably raised as a Mormon.
He likely registered Republican at 18.
His father isn’t law enforcement, the neighbor is.
He is not a tranny, but his boyfriend is transitioning.
The gun was probably his.
He was supposedly giggling maniacally when being arrested and booked.

Again, we’ll see how accurate locally sourced information is.

Twitter is starting to confirm the story that the shooter was living with his transgender partner.
That’s the “roommate”.

Again, we’ll see if it’s true.

The shooter contacted his “roommate” on a discord server asking him to retrieve the hidden rifle.
That’s how law enforcement found the shooter.

The “roommate” is cooperating fully.

-The family has been confirmed to be conservative.
-Confirmed he was raised Mormon.
-Not registered as either Republican or Democrat
(this was admitted to be speculative from my source)
-The father is confirmed not to be law enforcement.
-The law enforcement person turned out to be a friend/minister, not necessarily the neighbor.
-Transitioning boyfriend confirmed.
-No word on the gun, but the specific information I received was that the rifle was given to him by his grandfather when he was still a minor.
(Though this may be in reference to a different gun).
-No confirmation concerning his behavior post-arrest.

I am curious as to why no information concerning the gun’s origin has been released and why it took an investigative journalist to break the story about the boyfriend.

During the immediate aftermath, many internet sleuths discovered all sorts of posts demonstrating possible prior knowledge of the attack.
Much of this was associated with the trans community.

Supposedly, the boyfriend tipped about the rifle and has been singing.
How deep does this rabbit hole go?

FWIW, there was a high profile sniper incident in the area when he would’ve been 7 years old (murder of Kane county deputy Brian Harris).
Hard to say how a child processes that stuff.

I'm not a conspiracy man. So a person who has some experience shooting, could shoot a sitting man in the neck at 200 ? yards? Also down slope angle under a cover from the tent.

I would watch Eagles body armor video above. When I watched the shooting on other video's I was not convinced at first that he got shot with a 30-06 rifle directly in the neck with no exit wound. This caused me to think 2nd shooter with a varmint type rifle in .22 cal.. I now changed my opinion after watching the body armor video and other videos taken from different angles.

My opinion changed because I think Mr dumb ass Antifa assassin, Not knowing you need to hold under at steep angles, was going for a Heart shot and the bullet impacted high and clipped the top of the body armor. This split the bullet into 1-2 fragments one entering the neck with a large mushroomed piece of lead severing Charlie's artery. I am making the assumption he was using standard hunting ammunition off the store shelf.

I blame dumb luck and a perfect storm of security lapse's for this tragic death.

The FBI needs to come forward and not be such Douches with information... Squash all speculation and conspiracy now they have caught this guy.

I am making the assumption he was using standard hunting ammunition off the store shelf. They had released a pic of one of the unfired rounds to show the whacked-out writing on the case. Looked like pretty standard lead-tipped spire-point to me. The scattered Kommentariat had made some "oooh-ahhh' comments over the bluish cast to the tip but I think it was just poor lighting of the photo.

Ok….. so….. without being to wonky about long-range-marksmanship I’ll see if I can help.

First, what is the inherent accuracy of his rifle-ammo combination? This is “how big of a spread” expected mechanically. Imagine locking the rifle into an unmovable rest and shooting 10 rounds. What is that spread at 100 meters. Typically this is expressed in MOA which is an angular measurement. For reference, 1 MOA at 100m is approximately 1 inch. At 200m approximately 2 inches. Etc.

My educated guess would be this rifle / ammo combo is between 3 and 4 MOA meaning at 200m it’s roughly a 6-8 inches group (the bullet could land anywhere inside that circle).

Second, what is the capability of the shooter? Factors like shooter ability / training (unknown), shooting position (prone is good but no bipod is bad), and his general understanding of ballistics.

With a simple YouTube search his ballistics understanding could be better than you’d think. Additional factors like the psychology of actually shooting at another human being with the understanding that you have to run, fast, and from the police are also hard to account for, but generally diminish accuracy of the shot.

Third, other environmental factors like wind, density altitude (how thick the air is), slope (angle the shot was taken above / below), and the like?

At 200m these variables make up less than an estimated 0.5 MOA combined with that rifle and ammo combo. So, those factors are not a big deal.

Overall, I’d say there was a bit of luck involved (only that the guy got a lucky shot, not that Mr Kirk was the target), but in reality , a 200m shot with a 30-06 is a chip-shot at best. Hell, I don’t even think he’d have to dial / hold DOPE on the scope?

For reference, the US Army takes “never-evers’ and has them shooting 300m with irons in less than 2 weeks.

This whole thing is a tragedy, but I’m glad to see that maybe the aMErican public is starting to realize that the extreme left is evil and needs to be dealt with.

I said from the first reporting that I doubt the shooter was aiming for the neck. It was either a fractured round, or a poor shot that was aimed at the heart or head.

Agreed - an inexperienced marksman shooting at a relatively high angle from 200 yards, aiming for the heart, using a 4 MOA gun and what is most likely "Big Box Store" ammo like Core-Lokts, Power Points, or Power Shoks would have impacted a few inches higher that the actual aiming point. Point of aim center mass (most likely) without adjusting for the angle would have resulted in rounds impacting a little high - Because "angles"

My view is that leftist extremism is far more prevalent than anyone realizes. The domestic madrassas have been churning out believers for decades. These people are in control of not only the universities, but also the rest of the schools, the media, Hollywood, and a very large swath of corporate America. It's not just young kids who have been radicalized.

Based upon the released videos, the rifle has to be some kind of breakdown model. Alleged shooter not seen taking a rifle onto the university nor seen running away with a "towel wrapped rifle", just a backpack.

The FBI reported a screwdriver was found on the roof. An M 98 Mauser sporter is held together by 2 screws...one thru the top of the receiver rear and thru the wrist to the rear trigger guard and one forward up the mag base plate to the forward receiver.
Then you have a short stock and the action that can be wrapped in a towel or placed in a backpack.

The location of his perch was shown on the news.
Google earth measures it to be 155-160 meters.

The shooter grew up shooting and hunting.
This area has a strong gun culture, so he probably knew how so shoot reasonably well.

There is very little ground cover, and even in the forests, you can see quite a distance.
Not a long shot for someone growing up in this area.

Also, my source indicated that the rifle was given to him by his grandfather when he was a minor (news sources simply state it was “given” to him).
If that was the case, he was already familiar with the weapon system.

Probably not a difficult shot.

In separate news, the driver I shuttle to is out of St George.
His daughter lives near the shooter.

Supposedly, people in the area had to evacuate due to a bomb risk when the apartment was being searched.

This reminds me of one of the robbers on whom the movie "Dog Day Afternoon" was based. Guy who grew up Catholic and didn't want to admit to himself or his family/community that he was gay, so he tried to rob the bank to get the money for sex-change surgery for his boyfriend.

The shooter was methodical.

He changed clothes.
He (apparently) avoided most of the security cameras.
His infil/exfil routes seem well prepared (and may have been rehearsed).
The towel was probably a ground cloth to prevent the muzzle blast from kicking up dust and revealing his position.

For a smart kid digging on the internet, it’s plausible that he could’ve figured out all these things on his own.
But there’s something that doesn’t fit.

His application of the KISS principle (keep it simple, stupid) seems awfully efficient for an inexperienced 22 year old.
If he were digging up the “how to”, it doesn’t make sense to have so few, but effective, things done right, but nothing extra.

It makes more sense that he would’ve tried to be overly clever.
It’s the things that weren’t done that don’t make sense.

I don’t train 22 year olds, but I suspect many here do.
In the opinion of the professionals, do inexperienced 22 year olds naturally know how to include critical components, yet keep plans simple?
