I'd like to follow protocol, but sometimes there is no sign out tab at the bottom of the home page.

I took that question by SP5IC to mean something totally different QRQ30. I thought he was asking how to follow the instructions on how to "sign off" from the site properly so that others that use your computer cannot enter this site under his username and gain access to areas that are not general public access.
If that is what you are asking SP5IC, then you can either close the site and delete all your internet browsers history, cookies, and temp files (how to do it is covered in the link below) or you can follow a much easier way I have outlines below.
1. Click this link (it is actually located in the FAQ tab section under User Maintenance on the top right of every screen on this site: http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb_user_maintain#faq_vb_clear_cookies
2.Then click on the CLICK ME in the first sentence of that paragraph to clear your cookie for this site. It will "sign you off" and prevent unauthorized access into the site from others using whatever computer you are accessing the site with.
Hope that helps...
There's one at the very bottom right for me.
