I Have developed a new drug candidate that can be transformative in the fibrotic diseases and oncology markets (see attachment). We are preparing to enter the clinical phase of drug development. This necessitates raising outside capital. The commercial arm of our bank, Univest. Put us in touch with their investment arm, Univest Securities, LLC.
We received an engagement letter from them and over the last 2 months they identified a source to provide our Series A round ($18M) and we began deal structure negotiations and due diligence. We learned that the capital source was a Chinese company. Consequently, we backed out of the deal and the relationship with Univest.
I am posting this to point out yet another arm of the war that is in process with our primary adversary.

Thanks. This is interesting. It seems there are trends in banking to have a division devoted to really global investments and those investments include, at somewhere in the loop, Chicom companies. I'd be curious if the investment arm is something the bank developed organically, or if it's some outfit that they partnered with and then just call it their investment arm. Might be my age but there is some deja vu' going on with this...
TJ, great call. Good luck going forward.

Maybe we can institute a mini SF Shark Tank :lifter:D:lifter
:]
TJ, you must have some rock solid board members. BMS, J&J, Merck, are within 1 to 25 minutes from my front door. There is no way any one of those CEO would make that call. As for your product, 06's DNA fibroids, wishing you much success moving forward.
Stealing intellectual property is something the Chinese have been doing forever.....and for some reason we've allowed it.

Interesting that you should mention that J.J. The tank is running on empty and we need $25K to pay our quarterly intellectual property renewal fees through Q2 2024 and attend the 5th Inflammasome Summit in Boston next month. There are companies that know us and that will be there and would like to form a clinical development partnership with us if we can get there. We can make a very attractive deal!
Let me know the next steps.

Thank you Penn, but but the truth is that the large Pharma companies can afford to make a mistake and do battle with the Chinese Pharma. We have to rely upon those SF skills learned years ago to stay alert and move with stealth on the battlefield while maintaining good SA.
TJ, No doubt.
Here is something interesting. While at g school, I had a professor that worked for BMS, he stated the rational behind what comes to market is revenue driven. e.g., if x dollars are to fund research, the goal will be to fund the most profitable, not the necessarily the most needed for a cure. When Covid vax came out we understood the fully realized statement he made.
That said, his model for investment vs ROI, we employ when constructing our menus. We have been very please ever since.

Penn, sorry for this late reply, but I have been off-line. You have poimted out the issue and the dichotomy of investment strategies. In the cases of 'single focus' investments such as you personal portfolio or the next 'me too' pharma product your BMS professor is correct. However, once in a while, a truly transformational new drug candidate emerges. In these cases the rules should not apply. If current Pharma thinking existed in Alexander Fleming's day, Penicillin would not have been developed!
Or if it had, penicillin's retail cost would have made it unaffordable to most.
