Have always wanted one and just picked this up from a neighbor who is a Vietnam Veteran and a retired LEO. They were designed in 1899 and its five round rotary magazine was a pretty revolutionary idea for a firearm designed at the close of the 19th Century. Savage originally tried to sell it to the military but that didn't fly so they sold them on the civilian market instead. They were produced in 16 different calibers to include .410 shotgun and they were last manufactured in 1998. Mine is a .308.
Anybody else like them or have one?
I always had a soft spot for the 99. When I was a kid, a friend's dad had one in 300 Savage (predecessor to the 308 W/7.62x51)
At the time, I carried my Remington Model 8, .35 Rem. It was short but very heavy 8lb+?, while the 99 was 6.5lbs
In later years, I had the Jones for a shortened take-down model with a can as a backpacking rifle.

Anybody else like them or have one?Always thought they were cool, take-down the coolest. Going off memory I think one is featured in "Death Hunt" where Mountie Lee Marvin chases trapper Charles Bronson.
Congrats!

Don't know if he used it on Bonnie and Clyde or not, but legendary Texas Ranger Frank Hamer liked the Savage 99 too. :D

Cpt Hammer and his team carried Remington models 8 & 81 with Krieger Detachable Magazines.
The only difference between the 8 & 81 was straight or curved grip-stock.
