Daiwa Proteus 80lb class rod, Shimano Speedmaster 16 with 80lb Braid and 20 ft of 80lb test Flurocarbon leader, 5/0 Owner live bait J hook, live mackerel for bait. It sounds a bit of a heavy set up but there 100lb + grouper in the rocks that pop up occasionally. I also use a similar 50lb rig for fly lining live bait...

Sounds like a smart setup given what else is swimming down there. Dad took me to Ensenada as a youngster and I got one about the size in your pic, but he had to haul it up on the boat. Bigger than I was. I do recall it ate pretty good.

Yes, Yellowtail is delicious. It is very good in any number of ways from sashimi to beer battered for fish tacos...

Ever had 'em charge the boat like a smallie will do? I bet that would get sporty in a hurry.

Badger- No, I have never had a Yellowtail do that. In fact, just the opposite. When a Yellowtail sees the boat, they will zip off another run. I have had tuna charge the boat. A guy I know caught a then world record yellowfin tuna(388 Lbs) with a "suicide" fish. It rammed into the boat and they got 6 gaffs into it and got it on board in less than 10 minutes...
