Delta Force Jump Haters Club: Not all operators like skydiving
George Hand | May 3, 2023
Charles R. and I both belong to an exclusive club in the Delta Force — the Jump Hater’s Club. There was a small number of members in that club. Some members held their membership secret from the rest of the men of the Force. Some were in the club and didn’t even really know that they were members at all. Charles R. and I wore our membership on our sleeves, and we always made damned-certain that our membership dues were paid up to date!

My first jump post HALO school was a night Hollywood into St. Mère Église. I remember waving and pulling and then waking up in the saddle. Steel pot was in my face and I had a full canopy (MC1-1). I heard a Maj. broke his arm on landing...
The jump manifest disappeared - so no MMF badge for this badgefinder... :boohoo
Had a guy on my MFF ODA that I knew was terrified of MFF, but he was more afraid of appearing afraid so did what needed doing.
He called his 24 hours prior to a jump his 'pre worry' event.
Guys that can face fear and do what needs done are fine by me.
While I was in AIT at Ft Sill OK, I tried to complete Civilian Jump school. Not enough money as an E2 nor time, I was not happy :[
At OCS I roomed with a guy called Hous. I believe Larry had 3 tours in VN and was an early SF HALO jumper.
He said his first couple of jumps were easy as he blacked out and his chute was opened by the auto-deploy. Anyway, that was a long time ago, and I believe beer was involved during the discussion. :munchin
Yesterday I spotted this vid compilation of HALO student jump fails. :D

The cool, skilled competency of the cadre is very impressive. Salute!

I could not agree more! I was amazed at how effortless those instructors made correcting those dangerous situations appear! Double salute!
I was always more amazed at how some students could do things with their bodies during free fall that some of the very best instructors couldn't even replicate in the VWT under controlled conditions.
