The CASA-212 lost a main landing gear wheel in the initial incident and subsequently made an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Looks like the third passenger fell out after a hard touch and go? The aircraft pilot used the call sign Shady 02 during the flight operations.
Does sound just a little bit shady. Back in the day when I used to see those unmarked Twin Otters flying out by the west end of Bragg some older NCO told me that the spooks were flying them. Didn't think he was talking about a certain ethnic group either, so I just left it to my imagination.

Looks like multiple passes over Raeford and Maxton-Laurinburg to me.
Units on Bragg have used the contract air to conduct proficiency drops for many years, as the AF did not like doing hop and pops for us.
There also used to be a contract DC-3 for training jumps.
Gonna be one helluva story when the pilot's statement is released.

I've heard tell that it belonged to one company from one state, registered to another, based out of another state, doing business in its home state.
All water cooler talk so far - no facts - but those will be coming soon.
I'm assuming it was a part-135 compliant bird and not a pt-91 bird
...I cant wait to talk about this at work on monday

Casa 212....the fun jumps!
Jumped form one of those once and 15 seconds later I was cussing a 2 star general as I ran across the top of his chute. Asshole sky shark, straphanger!
He wasn't around on the DZ when I landed. I think he managed to cut under everyone in that stick.
I wonder if that body was found with an un-open chute on?
there was no chute
rumor 'round the campfire was first that he "fell" then that he exited over a body of water
...seems to me like somebody named "pilot in charge" is going to have a bunch of 'splaining to do

Read somewhere (a parent speaking) that he was a somewhat recently licensed pilot. Perhaps transitioning, working on a ME rating? Wonder what precipitated the previous "hard landing" at Raeford (where they lost the wheel) before declaring the situation and going to RDU. Imagine the remaining pilot is in lawyer land and you know how they are about talking out of school.
A better theory was that after a hard landing, so hard that it either totally broke off or severely damaged one of the main landing gear, the co-pilot walked to the back of the cargo bay, laid flat on the ramp or crouched at the edge of the ramp, and tried to look around the side of the aircraft to see what condition the gear was in, only to be bumped off, slid off, lost his grip, etc. from turbulence as the pilot maneuvered a not so aerodynamic aircraft.
I assume they have parachutes (like a C-130 on the hooks at the right front of the cargo compartment), if only for emergency use only, but I don't know.
