View Full Version : Memorial Day 2022 - Found WWI tidbit
My wife showed me something that she found while going through her parents' boxes recently. Her father's mother, whose father served in WWI, had the instructions that were handed out by churches, municipal offices, and libraries on how the mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters could knit socks for the Doughboys.
How many were buried wearing them?
Salute all! And Rest in Peace.
Salute indeed, and God Bless them for their sacrifice and service.
What an awesome little piece of history to possess. Back then, everyone did their part to help.
Thanks for sharing this piece of history

This is close to home.
My grandaunts Peggy & Hatty made socks. When I was around 8-9 I received a pair of hand-me-downs, they already had some patching spots. They were heavy-duty wool work socks appropriate for farm work and hunting boots, but that did not faze me, I wore them in my Keds Hi-Tops. I kept them long after they stopped fitting.. :lifter

That’s a fantastic find. Thanks for sharing here.
Have you thought of donating it to local military museum so that others may see this important part of history?
God Bless all those who gave so much so that we could be free and live in times of peace!
