I found this article quite interesting. It appears Putin has called the January 6 incident at the Capitol for what it is. This coming from a man who know exactly what political persecution is:

Its pretty sad when you agree with a foreign leader about accusations against your own government.

I would take anything from the Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti man with extreme scrutiny. Maskirovka is surely second nature to him, and sowing seeds of dissension is a plausible motive.
