Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann Summers on Gilligan’s Island past away today at 82 of complications of Covid-19.

She was a wonderful person and talented entertainer. She will be missed.

Raise your hand gentlemen if you didn’t have a crush on her when you were a child or Vietnam veteran fighting the war?

Rest In Peace Mary Ann, and join the rest of your cast(-aways) (excluding Ginger who is the last survivor.)

I was crushed when I saw the news yesterday. Probably spent 30 minutes looking at old photos online and video clips. Like a part of my childhood just disappeared. RIP Dawn.

The gal that made me love coconut cream pie.

A little bit of trivia for those that battle with the "Ginger of Mary Ann" quandary...

In the early 1980's cartoon series, "Gilligan's Planet" Dawn Wells provided the voice tracks for Mary Ann AND Ginger.
...some times you CAN have your cake and eat it too

Rest In Peace Ms. Wells

She was an icon of the day and appears to have lived a happy life. That role probably reached more people than can be imagined, including myself. I’m moving from “ this is very sad” to WTF is responsible for this and what are we doing now about the next round

As many here realize a low intensity conflict has escalated and many of the powers that be have decided on an ostrich approach.

Step 1 Buy American Made...
Step 2 Know what your buying...
Step 3 Withdraw any support for companies within the chain of profit involving support to belligerents.
Be loud and be proud, our voices need to be resonating in every head of leadership...

Rest in Peace, Dawn! I also was a Mary Ann fan.

That makes Ginger the sole survivor of the 3 hour cruise.

RIPGrowing up where I did, I recall Alan Hale Jr.'s daughter Lana (from 1st marriage) living down the street (my age too) and being rather irritated when 3 of us guys on the block popped THE question to her:
"Could you arrange for us to meet Mary Ann?"

As they say, and THAT's when the fight started....

Ah, the sitcom babe choices available to young males of the era:

Mary Ann or Ginger? Mary Ann

Janet or Chrissy? Janet (Three's Company)

Jan or Jennifer? Jan (WKRP in Cincinnati)

Unlike Ginger, Mary Ann was real and approachable. Watched many episodes of that show in black and white. :p

I seem to remember that someone started a go fund me page for her after she had health and or financial issues? Judging from the donations it looked like she is still very well liked.

There were certainly a reasonable number of young ladies that came to Hollywood in the day from small towns all over the world and found jobs at Hollywood Blvd and Vine Street during that time as well. At least they knew they would be paid for services rendered and not some casting couch proposition by creepy old dudes.

Hollywood has always been a cesspool of sorts but yes, there were lovely people that made an impression on young men that reinforced being a male.

This was from Soldiers Magazine July 1976, I think Charlies Angels made one of the issues also. I am guessing the Army no longer has any slick publications that feature pretty girls. Ridgid Tools and Snap-on were were once known for their classic calenders but alas no more.
