Flying into SFO next week will be using UBER for the first time to get to my son's home in across the Bay. What are any of your experiences with this mode of transportation good or bad ? There is nothing high tech about me it was all I could do to get the app on my phone. Is it pretty easy to use?

I prefer to use Uber or Lyft over taxis wherever they are working.

Lyft is preferred over Uber as the latter is known to change prices during the trip. Either is easy to use. Apps draw battery life if you leave it running the whole time though (constant GPS). Do not allow the apps access to other parts of your phone if worried about data collection or ESR (still a bit of exposure).

My brother has had to use Uber often.

Figure out and remember how to cancel a ride if you need to, it's nearly impossible to find it within the time limit you have to do so

If the car smells like pot (it happens) refuse the ride

Keep your door open until you are strapped in, they often won't wait otherwise

Give them a 5 star rating unless they truly suck.

He said it lies about time, they aren't showing up in x minutes like it will say, probably closer to 2 times. Plan for it.

Have an enjoyable trip, B!

depends how quickly you want to get there and how much you want to spend, you can take a BART from the airport, will take you to the east bay and then catch an uber from wherever you should get off. That is cheaper, and if traffic is bad, unlikely now that the state is shut down, might be just as fast or faster.
