Guys, I have a buddy who is an avid Al Mar knife collector. He wants to engrave a knife with a tribute to Nick Rowe, Dan Pitzer and Al Mar. Unfortunately, google is not a help with Al Mars final rank and exact date of death. Any help with Al Mars info would be great. He asked me to reach out to the community. Thanks!

According to his daughter in his write up in Blade Magazine

https://blademag.com/blade-magazine-cutlery-hall-of-fame#mar

He was a sworn deputy in several states and an accomplished martial artist, holding a 5th degree black belt in Judo. He also trained in Jeet Kune Do, Kendo and various Philippine martial arts styles. However, his creative side is his legacy.

(NOT) Confirmed yet but working on it, date of death (17 Oct 1992)

I bought a AL MAR fighting knife in 1992 and still have it this is the model I have.

I also have 17 Oct 92 DOD, but not confirmed. Also thinking somewhere was noted he was an NCO, but also can't confirm his short time in service, maybe SGT E-5. Can't make any assumptions for any info. It's getting engraved, need confirmation.

I'll ask Bill Harsey, he knew Al and if anyone might now this info, Bill should be the person.

EDIT: From what I was able to find out, Alfred Clark "AL" Mar died in 1992 and he was in a reserve SF unit as an NCO. No mention of final rank.
