Good Dogs: Dementia Service Dogs Provide Patients, Caregivers With Improved Quality of Life
By Being Patient | December 28th, 2018

In Dayton, Ohio, a large black and tan dog named Diva is sleeping peacefully on the lap of 77-year-old Joe Biden. He smiles as he sniffs the dog’s fur and as his wife Jill looks on, she can’t help but wonder if her hubby of 43 years is remembering happier times.

The Bidens have always had dogs, but Diva, a German Shepard breed, is a special canine caregiver. Trained by Karen Shirk, founder of 4 Paws for Ability in Xenia, Ohio, Diva provides comfort and assistance to Joe, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2010.

I'm confused...which one is the dementia support dog? The blond or the canine?
