Codenamed Operation Overlord, the battle began on June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day, when some 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history and required extensive planning.

Thanks Tony for reminding us of the courage and sacrifices these men made for winning the war against fascism. Truly remarkable what they did on this day 76 years ago and those days immediately following this greatest assault to liberate Europe from Nazi control.











(If those brave men knew in their wildest dreams that 76 years later fascists and whites supremacist would be torching American cities under the guise of oppression they would have told their commanders to turn the boats around this is not what we are fighting and dying for.)
