Why? if you are going to employ a major PsyOP using advanced AI tech against one candidate and not act evenly, fairly, by employing that massively powerful weapon across the whole of the political spectrum, you are acting in a way to betray every OATH ever taken.

I think participants should end up court shortly.
BUT,, Is the process of collecting data and creating negative political actionable items and then paying others to propagate the message illegal?? :munchin
An anti-Trump Democratic-aligned political action committee advised by retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal is planning to deploy an information warfare tool that received initial funding from DARPA, the Pentagon’s secretive research arm -- transforming technology originally envisioned as a way to fight ISIS propaganda into a campaign platform to benefit Joe Biden.
Social media guru Curtis Hougland is heading up Defeat Disinfo, and he received the funding from DARPA when his program was "part of an effort to combat extremism overseas." He explained in an interview with the Post that he was unhappy that top social media accounts often supported Trump, and had effectively defended the president in recent days from claims that he had suggested Americans inject themselves with disinfectant.
The Washington Post first reported that the initiative, called Defeat Disinfo, will utilize "artificial intelligence and network analysis to map discussion of the president’s claims on social media," and then attempt to "intervene" by "identifying the most popular counter-narratives and boosting them through a network of more than 3.4 million influencers across the country — in some cases paying users with large followings to take sides against the president."
Why is this not totally illegal, and people not in jail for just the thought of undermining the Democratic process???
Infriggincredible...what have we become...:confused::confused:
From the article cited in OP.

I'm always fascinated when people act surprised at the antics of retired flag officers like him.
fascinating
So, an active duty GO does a lot of PT - don't sleep much - doesn't eat cake - and skyrockets to prominence on the backs of their troops.
...must be a conservative republican
Does anyone actually pay attention to the things of substance that these guys SAY and DO when they are on active duty?
If so, why all the hero worship followed by shock and surprise when a news article :outs" them for who they really are ??
fascinating

Trump whamboozled 'em previously through his use of social media, particularly Twitter. This is an attempt at counter-marketing. The problem could be with the attention span of the average Twit. They are much less likely to actually notice that something has been purposely spoon-fed to them because they'll see the attention getting message, and not the stuff in the header of the feed that says what it is & where it's coming from. Same as the small-print at the bottom of a 15-sec TV ad.
That the tech was originally developed with help from a DARPA grant doesn't keep it later from being usable by the owner. (People should maybe get in an uproar about the billions per year the CDC wasn't spending on their core mission.)
Both campaigns, and those that work on their behalf, are going to have to craft their stuff pretty carefully while simultaneously hoping their candidate doesn't step in it by opening their mouth at the wrong time. Lambasting incumbent vs. cognitively-challenged challenger.
And the self-absorbed "I'm the smartest guy in the room" ex-GO associated with it will get his payoff either way.
This Curtis Hougland who is mentioned started a company in 2016 named Main Street One (https://mainstreet.one/) .
Main Street One's home page notes their purpose is "repairs harmful narratives and advances positive ones on behalf of causes, campaigns, and companies. Our intelligence system tracks opportunities to shift public discourse and then outputs messages and content to change the outcome."
Main Street One ran an OP during the 2020 Super Bowl named #MuteTrump! where participants were compensated.

From Vanity Fair:
In previous years Hougland had received funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Pentagon’s research unit for emerging technologies, to assist in the propaganda fight against ISIS, which had developed a small but sophisticated content machine that exploited social networks to amplify its vision. It was low cost and powerful: just 5% of identified ISIS members were making 80% of its online content spreading around the world.

Box is spot-on. this guy is a BIG lib. I worked with him in IZ. I remember him standing in the middle of the JOC - in PT clothes - surrounded by operators wearing....PT clothes, screaming about how he didn't want to see any more PT clothes in the JOC. This was almost immediately after he went downrange and "assumed" control over what another entity had been running.
he is on record as saying only the police and Military should have guns.
The guy is a nutter.

Hmmmm....If even possible (doubtful) wouldn't just the attempt be seen as political censorship?
imho, the action is likely to be viewed from the outside in many different ways.
That said, he spent a full life time holding dear the principles of protect and defend, while in uniform, to abandon the OATH, transgress the Moral Code, to willfully undermine the constitutional structure for personal gain, he deserves nothing, no respect, and no community. He is no different then that recent cadet and USMA graduate, who willfully flaunted alligence to Che and Communist ideology.

Penn,
Looks like they “quickly” did a cut and paste to the original.
You are correct, this guy is a treasonous bastard.
The BIG item is the slapdown from DARPA.
If they get DARPA really pissed I wonder what the outcome would be. We can probably surmise that they will keep it very quiet.

"Only the Police & Military should have Guns" Well, Stanley, Suppose they are not your police & your military ? What are you going to do; When they come for you?
S&T, That's good news. having posted to twitter, Linkedin, Instargam, along with a direct msg via personal email to the McChrystal group. we had hope it would impact the decision process to control the media and election.

That is the thing that always boggles me on these boards is when an Officer someone here knows becomes a GO they tout him as different a "good dude". The "good dude" has negative conotations IMO....So no they are not different they share the same compromised character as they all do
"Only the Police & Military should have Guns"
I never read that part in the Constitution. I must have missed that day and never made up the work. I guess he and I swore an oath to defend a *different* constitution than he did.
Wesley Clark approves.
Hey now! A blast from the past. That little dude was my Division Commander at 1CAV back in the day. Had some quirks then that translated into policy that were not "enhancing" during NTC rotations.
I don't like his politics nor do I like McCrystal's... unseemly in my book.
But I remember the day when my butter-bar self was walking down from the back of the motor pool line one afternoon and I see in the distance, a little dude surrounded by a retinue of horse-holders. I didn't know who in the hell he was, but I knew that he wasn't my friend and this wasn't good. And unfortunately, I was all by myself. And I do mean, All. By. Myself. As I got closer, I could see the two bright stars on the little dude's BDU cap, a big-assed eagle on one of the others and who cares about the others beyond that? Right?
I meet him and his group, salute, introduce myself and my Battalion (20th ENG, "Build and Fight") tell him that I was the senior officer present (I was so idealistic then) and give him some bullshit about my platoon's OR rate and some general stuff about my company, and OR rate that I heard at the last company ops meeting .. all the while searching with my eyes like a scared rabbit for someone to help me.
At this point, an unlucky private (is there any other type?) came out from behind a vehicle and i called him over. I excused myself from the Division Commander (MG Clarke) and after asking him for his name, quietly told him to run, not walk, to the BN HQ and get someone, anyone above the rank of 2LT over to the motor-pool ASAP to talk with the Division Commander. I think I also told him that if he did not do it fast enough I would personally make sure that his time remaining in the battalion would be a living hell. (sorry, I was like that as a youngster).
Like a good officer, I smiled and offered to give the good General a tour of our Company motor-pool line, but he and his entourage took pity on me and told me that it would not be necessary, made some small talk with me that neither I nor they cared one iota about, and told me that they would be leaving and for me to carry on. I do remember the General looking amused at my undoubtedly obvious nervousness. But they turned around and left.... with me following them to make sure that they left.
By the time the BN S3 got across the street to the motor-pool, they were long gone.

Thanks for the tale! LOL. I can visualize that.
Yeah, Clark struck me has a little aspiring tyrant back when he was running also. His quote that "civilians" didn't need assault rifles & "if you want 'em join the Army" told me all I needed to know. He & McChrystal are a pair.
The Linkedin post, the same one post here has garnered attention from some serious people, several gov.intel checking out the profile. To date: 76+ from that world, along with 3 negative, including a principle from the McC Grp.
Replied to one comment, which attempted to frame a conversation in a Trump vs Biden context.
The post, was never about individual candidates. The post directly addresses the greatest threat (imoo) to our free nation, which is the erosion of individual voting control, threaten as it is by vote harvesting, Mail-in voting, lack of voting ID, and now AI, structured to mine the social landscape and create narratives to prime a population mindset, nothing could be more insidious.

Hmmmm....If even possible (doubtful) wouldn't just the attempt be seen as political censorship?
The worst fears of the government...the very men(in this case a man) who have been trained to topple a government and or a regional power are now utilizing that ideology to topple and undermine a legitimate government on behalf of a political party......completely outside of the values of someone who had sworn an oath to the constitution but now seeks to undermine it
WD. This is a confluence of people, place, event, timing that could accomplish exactly what you have described. It like seeing the recession of water, dumbfounded, until you understand looking at the returning surge, the tsunami is at your door.
The just muddle through clown McChrystal.
This is what he told Pompeo when he took over Sec State about Afghanistan.

Give up other Americans that resist with detailed information Comrade !

It's same as it ever was - democrats that virtue signal while simultaneously fucking lady liberty right in her ass...
...the party of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, George McClellan, Hugo Black, Theodore Bilbo, Joe Brown, Robert Byrd, John Gordon, James Heflin, Nury Martinez, LBJ, Hillary Clinton, and of course, Joseph Robinette Biden
The same party that was formed in 1829 that spent the next 190 years opposing every single relevant civil rights effort that people like Bill Clinton and LBJ could shake their dicks at.
The party of Nathan Bedford Forrest.
The same party that started the civil war, then fought against reconstruction, then founded the KKK and perpetrated countless horrific barbaric acts against decent hardworking human beings whose only crime was wanting to live in a free country as productive citizens. The party that gave the USA Jim Crow laws and segregation.
The same party that demanded that we name military bases after confederate generals before they would cooperate with the federal government for training troops for WW1. The party that vehemently opposed the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments after a democrat-stage-actor shot and killed Abe Lincoln (a republican that ended slavery in America)
The party that refused to elect a black man into congress until 1935.
The same party that instituted literacy taxes and poll taxes. The party of Woodrow Wilson - you remember him - he is the POTUS that resegregated numerous federal agencies and became the first president to screen a movie at the White House...
...that was was "The Birth of a Nation" in case anyone is curious.
The party that...
...well, for fuck sakes, you all get the point - there have always been generals that are complicit in the bullshit that democrats foist upon us (see above with names like Lee and McClellan) and the modern day is no different except that now they have access to horrifying technology.

The party of Nathan Bedford Forrest.
His politics aside, that guy employed some military tactics worth studying. Not too hard to find some fine scholarship on special operations in the Civil War. :munchin
Didn't his side lose though?
His methods couldn't have been all THAT evolutionary...
