5 killed and 22 injured since 2006. If I was to dwell on the fact that I may have a catastrophic failure of one of my motorcycle tires I would never get on it. I have ridden a lot of miles since 2006 and more than likely all those miles were ridden on Dunlop tires. I keep the air pressure where is is suppose to be and I do not ride on bald tires. BTW I just spent a fortune having new Dunlops put on my bagger.
Most tire manufacturers suggest a 5 yr tire life span. I've been using Dunlops and Michelins (more of Dunlops) for yrs without a problem.
I think it mostly affects "garage queen" bikes that sit more than wear tires out to replace within the allotted time. JMO of course.
You especially have to be careful buying tires on line, you don't know how long they've been stored, and under what conditions.
You can tell a tires date by looking to the right of the "DOT" lettering, the first two numbers are the week and the second two are the yr the tire was made...
Of course, it also boils down to maintenance, correct air pressure etc.
