I was always taken by this vehicle... except for cold pull starts in the Winter! Apparently there was much more to the vehicle then I realized...

Although, regarding the image they usually had 4 wheels.

I used to work on them when I was a mechanic in the 1/509th in the late '70's.

Great vehicle to have fun with in the field. IIRC, the motor was a 3k generator motor

We had a couple on the firebases in Nam. Use them to run supplies from the helo pad to inside the wire.

They were hi maintenance as they sat out 24/7, rain or shine. :munchin

Hung around for a while. The ones down in Division sat out in the open 24/7 also.

Just remember - the worst kind of ride beats the best kind of walking.

I actually used one working for the Texas A&M Ag. Research Station in Etter, Tx. 1998. I loved that Mule and never could get it stuck. Perfect for farm use.

We had two at the USPFO in Camp George West. One had 2 wheel steering and the other 4 wheel steering, with the later you had to be careful around the turns. It was a bit of a right of passage, if you could start one in Winter they left you alone.

What I did't realize is that they could be converted into a motorized dolly. These things are great at getting supply to places where roads and paths are weak.

The one link needs to be decoded .YOU. can do it....or just search
