View Full Version : ARCOM w or wo V device??
OK,,
Would I be asking too much for a brief explanation?
AR 600-8-22 is a little sketchy on ARCOM cooking awards..
Does Mac-n-Cheese warrant the V device??
LMAO :lifter:D:lifter
That needs to be unmasked and if real, the signing official needs charges brought upon them.

Achievement medals are not authorized a "V" device for Valor...Commendation Medal (Army / Navy / Joint) is the lowest.
Dime to a dollar the "(with V device for Valor)" was typed onto the certificate afterwards.
Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals were authorized a "V" device denoting service in a combat zone (NOT VALOR) until 2016, when it was discontinued.
Coast Guard still uses "V" to denote combat service.

When it comes to military food, shouldn't the consumers of the meals be the ones in line for special recognition and not the preparers?
Bogus.....equivalent of the Army Achievement Medal.....that award is not authorized for a valor device.
The valor line is darker that the rest of the lines of type.
At least there is some humor there. If you want to take offense at a citation, check this out: https://www.history.navy.mil/research/histories/biographies-list/bios-j/johnson-lyndon-b/lyndon-b-johnsons-armysilver-star-citation.html

Besides, Valor is not designated below the recipients name but below the Medal nomenclature prior to the recipients rank name and SSN.

A Naval tradition for soon to be politicians......a guy named Kerry comes to mind...
Army General Burton Patrick, former commander of the 101st Airborne during 1985-1987, was well known for having his aide carry a few ARCOMS
in his pocket. He would make on the spot awards, leaving it for the aide to prepare the citation later.
During a field exercise I was present when MG Patrick came into the 2nd Brigade TOC. He asked those of us present "who did the best thing for the unit today?"
Well, the HHC cook could have brought store bought bread to the site. But he had brought gas powered field ovens out to the area, and, getting up at o-dark thirty, had baked fresh
bread for breakfast. This was full "from scratch, yeast, punch down, rise twice, bake." It was not batter bread.
The aroma of fresh bread had passed through the TOC and we were lined of for chow early.
By the time the General arrived that afternoon that cook had hit his cot for a well deserved nap.
But we unanimously agreed that the bread baking cook had "done the best thing for the unit today." That's what we told the General, and the cook was
awakened to report to the TOC, where an ARCOM was pinned in his chest.
I never did see the citation
I think that has to be a joke.
